Gretzky feels grateful for having a talented golf player like Dustin Johnson in his family. Johnson and Gretzky’s daughter Paulina Gretzky officially tied the knot in 2022 after ten years of dating. Wayne supported the couple throughout their journey and expressed his happiness on the wedding day.

Moreover, in many instances, the hockey player has appeared in several tournaments of Dustin Johnson. In one of his interviews with Graham Bensinger six years back, he shared what goes through his mind when he watches his son-in-law play. He stated:

“We never thought, or I never thought once I retired that I’d have the same sense or the same feeling going into tournaments that you’re pulling so badly, wanting somebody to win so desperately that your stomach hurts when you’re watching.”

He guessed that it was the same feeling that his wife and his father experienced when Gretzky would play during the hockey championships.

Besides Gretzky supporting Johnson’s golf career, the son-in-law had also paid a tribute to his father-in-law in early 2022 in collaboration with the sportswear giant Adidas. During the 2022, Genesis Invitational, in February, he wore limited edition shoes that had orange and blue stripes with 99 written on them. The stripe represented Gretzky’s team Edmonton Oilers, with whom he won four Stanley Cups. Moreover, 99 is Gretzky’s memorable NHL jersey. Moreover, Dustin also wrote “DJ” on the shoes as a personal touch.

Gretzky gave a bit of dating advice to his daughter

Wayne Gretzky accompanied Paulina and Dustin on their first date. Ever since then, he has supported the couple’s relationship.

Wayne also has an affirmative reaction to his daughter when Dustin proposed to her for marriage in 2013. In one of Paulina’s Instagram posts, she shared her father’s relationship advice:

“He told me to weigh the pros and cons of dating someone. If there are few cons and many pros, then don’t rule them out right away. If the cons outweigh the pros, then don’t try to be the person who thinks they can change them.”
