The ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky also seems to be a smart real estate investor. Although Gretzky is not a property agent by profession, he still shocked everyone when he sold the same house, not once, but twice. But it was no ordinary house. Gretzky knew exactly what to expect when he put the house on the market and did not settle for less during these transactions.

But how did “The Great One” create this double magic?

How Wayne Gretzky sold the same house twice?

Soon after Gretzky retired in 1999, he and his wife Janet bought a 13,000-square-foot mansion in Thousand Oaks. “When Wayne retired in 1999, we decided that there was no better place to raise our children than here in Southern California,” Gretzky’s wife had said to Mansion Global.

However, in 2007, the NHL star sold his property for a whopping $18.5 million. He had sold the mansion to former MLB player Lenny Dykstra, who later lost the place to foreclosure. Although Gretzky was not the immediate buyer of the house, a couple who had purchased the massive mansion in an auction, sold it back to Gretzky at a discounted price of $13.5 million.

Hence, the hockey legend was again the owner of his beloved Southern California house. But, again in 2021, Gretzky decided to sell the property, but this time with a price tag of $22.9 million. However, he only received $17.6 million, $5.3 million less than his original ask.

Nevertheless, it was still a massive profit for the $250 million worth of Gretzky. Although Gretzky is not the owner of the giant Californian house, he still owns a luxurious house in an elite neighborhood.

A neighborhood full of GOATs

Gretzky’s eldest daughter Paulina and famous golfer Dustin Johnson got married in April this year. And right before the wedding, Johnson sold his $4.5 million North Palm beach house to in-laws Gretzky and Janet.

With this, Gretzky joined tennis legend Serena Williams, NFL great Tom Brady, and iconic NBA legend Michael Jordan to win a house in the famous Florida area. “The Great One’s” Palm beach property is located alongside a canal that leads into the beautiful Harbor Isle.
