Coach K or Michael William Krzyzewski is a name well-known amongst basketball enthusiasts. The college basketball coach has led his team to five national titles and even more accolades during the regular seasons. The 76-year-old has been deemed untouchable among the college coaches following the success he has held; including the times he led US Basketball teams into the Olympics thrice.

The most loved coach at Duke University has led one of the most coveted careers. Be it the NCAA seasons or the Olympics, Coach K has conquered it all. Today, as the US Men’s Basketball team is heading to Paris 2024, the coach reflects upon his journey through his career and ultimately to the Olympics in a podcast hosted by Olympics.com.

Coach K talks about Olympics journey

The Olympics.com website recently revealed a podcast discussing Basketball teams, Paris 2024, and more with Coach K. Krzyzewski who led his team to Olympic gold in 2008, 2012, and 2016 spoke about what experience it has been through it all. “Coaching our US Olympic team for 3 Olympics was the honor of my life and my career,” he begins. “Really a lot of pressure. Not like you lost your conference tournament or whatever. You are gonna lose to the world. It’s the whole world. And I loved that,”?he further states.

Going further, the podcast reveals the formation of the Redeem Team after the USA stumbled down to a bronze medal. Following the results, it was Coach K that the management turned to which led him to his first Olympics entry and win. Though he officially coached the team first back in 2008, his introduction was rather quite early. In 1984 and 1992, Coach K reigned as an assistant coach. Out of which, the 1992 included the Dream Team involving the NBA stars.

“The experience helped me as I moved forward in my commitment to being with USA Basketball,” says Coach K about his first Olympic experience. He was with Duke University at the time and continued to be for the next 38 years; nurturing young talents and bringing glory far and wide to the university and the teams in the USA.

The coach’s stunning numbers

Coach K joined Duke University back in 1980 and went on to stay there until last year. Throughout his 42-year career as a coach, Krzyzewski led the Blue Devils to five national titles, 15 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournament championships, and 13 ACC regular season titles. If one may wonder if Coach K never received NBA term despite his success, he did receive and did so multiple times. But he decided to remain loyal to the Blue Devils and rather enjoyed the ACC.

“I never considered it to be a challenge to go to the NBA ? I thought it was pretty challenging to win the ACC!” Coach K reveals. But after coaching the national team for 11 years, he reveals to have found the appreciation towards the league; thus being associated with it recently as a special advisor. Though Coach K has formally retired from being a coach, he remains well-associated with the game and undoubtedly remains one of the best coaches in history.
