Ranked No. 1 breakdancer by the World DanceSport Federation, Rachel Gunn, aka Raygun, who should be currently celebrating the win, is experiencing the biggest setback of her career. A lecturer by profession, Raygun’s Paris Olympics appearance gained quite some attention, but it was not for her performance. Failing to secure any score against her opponents, her dancing style gained quite criticism and bullying from fans.
Comparing her dancing skills to the likes of a kangaroo to being joked about, Raygun has since become a subject of negative trolling on social media, which led to a rumor of her possible retirement. Denying those claims while facing such criticism from her debut performance, Raygun emerges successful in coping with the tragedy faced. Fighting with social media trolls was no joke, and for our breakdancer, the journey was nothing short of inspiring.

Speaking to 9NewsAustralia, Raygun says, “Yeah, look, I’m doing much better now. It’s been over three months since the big day in Paris. It was tough for a while there and getting used to this whole new world, this whole new reality, um, but I am doing much better, and honestly, the support has been amazing, and the positivity and people reaching out to me have been special, and that’s what I like to hold on to.”
The three-month return was a difficult one at the start, but with the negativity came some support that made her journey a bit easier to overcome. Sharing her breakdancing culture and the hate and love received from everyone, she says, “I seem to be a kind of polarizing. I think people either love me or hate me. I am not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s fine. There’s a whole different approach in breaking, and that’s what I love about the dance and the culture.”
