Lindsey Vonn, Who Has Known Shaun White Since His ‘Flying Tomato’ Days, Recently Claimed They Both Were on “Same Trajectory for Long Time”

Lindsey Vonn and Shaun White are both incredibly passionate about snowboarding. Both of them brought home Olympic medals home for their nation. In a recent interview, Vonn spoke about knowing White since her childhood. Additionally, she expressed her sentiment about watching him at the Beijing Olympics.

Shaun White is a three-time Olympic gold medalist and also holds the record for the most number of medals won at the X Games. The former American pro snowboarder and skateboarder has been acquainted with Vonn since his early days in the sport. In a discussion with E! News in October, Vonn discusses how the two have been on similar trajectories.

Lindsey Vonn says it was emotional

Talking about their relationship, Vonn said, “I have known Shaun for a very long time since he was the flying tomato,” she said.

“The hair is a little shorter, but he’s still the same Shaun.” The alpine ski racer continued, “But I feel like we have been on a similar trajectory for a long time, and it was great to see his final competition at the Beijing Olympics.”

Vonn, who secured three consecutive titles in 2008, 2009, 2010, and another in 2012, expressed that she knew what it felt like. Having been a pro snowboarder and Olympian herself, Vonn declared that Shaun and she have always been toe-to-toe.

Empathizing with White, she said, “that was really emotional for him—and also for me as a spectator and as someone who has been through it.“

Shaun White’s Life after the Olympics

Shaun White, 36, announced that he would step down as a professional after the 2022 Winter Olympics. Vonn was the one who presented him with the lifetime achievement award.

“It was really amazing to watch that moment and I am honored to be able to present the award to him,” said the 38-year-old athlete. White has moved his focus onto his new business venture. He is the proud founder of a premium line of skateboards and sports gear called Whitespace. White founded his company prior to his retirement.

Vonn herself is looking forward to more skiing and also the release of her Google collection and new ski line.
