The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has just revealed the most anticipated news. Breaking, riding, skating, and climbing all the highly cheered activities will now get a new address. Athletes will have the ultimate stage to secure their spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics in the first-ever Olympic Qualifier Series.
The IOC has coined the Olympic events as “festival-style” affairs. Here sports seamlessly merge with art, music, and culture to offer a truly unique and mesmerizing Olympic experience. The IOC is in close cooperation with four partner International Federations. These federations are responsible for organizing their respective competitions within the Qualifier Series. Shanghai and Budapest are the two spots that have been selected to host the inaugural Olympic Qualifier Series.
IOC’s “festival-style series” revolutionizes the Olympics

The federations that are parenting with the IOC are- the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), and the World Skate. IOC President Thomas Bach has underlined the event’s importance as a “key milestone in enhancing and promoting the road to the Olympic Games.”
The two-part series will feature competitions in BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding, and sport climbing. Shanghai will host the first leg of the series at the beautiful Huangpu Riverside from May 16 to 19, 2024. And then Budapest will follow with its part of the series at the Ludovika Campus from June 20 to 23, 2024.
In an exclusive interview with the Olympics, IOC President Thomas Bach said: ?The Olympic Qualifier Series offers an exhilarating pathway for athletes to qualify for Paris 2024. They will be able to showcase their skills in vibrant major city locations in front of passionate crowds. Shanghai and Budapest perfectly align with the concept of the Olympic Qualifier Series, serving as the ideal backdrop for an exciting new chapter in the Olympic Movement.?
What makes this even more special is that the conclusion of the Budapest event will coincide with Olympic Day. This termination is an annual celebration of the Olympic Movement held every June 23. The most awaited closure will surely stand out to be one of the most vibrant events of all time. Meanwhile, the athletes are getting in their form just to secure their place in the grand contest at the two cities.
Two cities carrying Olympics festival with one dream
Xie Dong, the Vice Mayor of Shanghai, expressed immense enthusiasm for hosting this event, emphasizing Shanghai’s rich sports history. He shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview with the Olympics, ?We are thrilled to host the Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai in 2024. It is a remarkable opportunity for our city, known for its rich sports history and talents, growing industry, and strong sports atmosphere, as it strives to build itself into a world-renowned sports city.”

Apart from that he also mentioned building scope for participants, “This top-tier event, celebrated for its youthful and urban atmosphere, will undoubtedly ignite the passion of Chinese youth for BMX, breaking, skateboarding, and sport climbing.?
The burgeoning sports industry collaborated with the vibrant sports culture of the cities. Hosting the Olympic Qualifier Series in Shanghai is creating the enthusiasm of the underdog’s youth. Brazilian sport climber Anja Kohler said about the event, ?I always like when different sports are represented at the same event because then you can go watch different sports, experience great sports moments, and meet a lot of new people, and for me, it is just one more motivation to push to participate in the Olympic Qualifier Series.?
