Competing in an event as grand as the Olympics requires a lot of resources. And Canadian speed skater turned cyclist Alexandra Ianculescu decided to aim high for the upcoming summer event. After previously participating in the Winter Olympics as a speed skater, the athlete now wants to redeem herself with a new sport. But her ways of funding herself are different.

Ianculescu signed up for the exclusive subscription service OnlyFans. By posting unseen photos of herself only for fans who pay for them, she plans on funding her athletic dreams. In a detailed note on Instagram, the Canadian Romanian explained her reasoning for the move.

Ianculescu described herself as someone who always did things her way without seeking the world’s approval. She recalled an anecdote where she shaved her head at a very young age, despite facing apprehension. Now that she had a new venture toward funding her athletic goals, she remained unapologetic about it. Ianculescu registered herself as an OnlyFans creator, offering exclusive pictures in return for paid memberships. This move came with a lot of negativity from fans who were critical of the platform. Many also judged the athlete for the kind of content she uploaded. However, the speed skater had a fitting response for the haters.

While the entire concept of fans wanting exclusive content was foreign to Ianculescu, once she began, she realized the benefits. Her reasoning was that the support from the platform helped her check some significant goals off her list. She explained that she appreciated “being able to enjoy it in a way where I don’t have to sacrifice my athletic life to work 3 part time jobs like I used to in the past, while pursuing Olympic Dreams.”
