The American Triple Crown remains among the highest achievements in the horse racing world. While there are numerous contenders for the honor, a rising star recently became a national sensation after a remarkable performance at Remington Park. The Springboard Mile is the youngest Kentucky Derby prep race and the 2-year-old Otto the Conqueror sent out waves across the community by winning the race and beating the famous Glengarry in the process.

Securing 10 points in the Kentucky Derby, Otto now sets his sights on next year. While the young mare is still underage, he will turn 3 in May 2024, making Otto eligible for the Derby. While big things are demanded of Derby racers, a short clip on social media shows why Otto is more than capable of matching up to the high pre-requisites of the Triple Crown.

In a video clip posted by the official account of World Horse Racing (WHR), Otto’s spectacular run in the Remington Springboard Mile can be watched in all its glory. From the very beginning of the race, Glengarry and Otto forge ahead, a lead they don’t lose out for the rest of the time. Quickly enough, the top spot becomes contested between the two and they create a significant gap with the rest of the racers.

With almost five lengths between the third and second, Otto pressed on Glengarry relentlessly. For the third place, an intense battle between Raging Torrent and Magic Grant waged on, but Otto and Glengarry looked focused on settling their own scores. With a quarter of a mile remaining, Otto made his move and inched past the leader to lead the pack.

However, Glengarry refused to cede so easily and kept pushing Otto until the latter won the race by half-length. The hard-won race sealed Otto’s possibilities as a Derby racer. With 10 points in the bag, Otto will prompt his Derby opponents to take notes of his signature moves and how to keep him at bay from winning the Triple Crown.

Nevertheless, as jockeys are preparing their thoroughbreds for the upcoming Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky horse racing bids goodbye to its staunch political leader.
