If San Diegans love something for sure it’s their iconic horse racing track Del Mar. The foundation dates back to 1936, and Del Mar Thoroughbred Club reported that in 1989, it was the leading track. The opening day averages more than 40K spectators the change from real dirt arena to synthetic dirt and back only seems normal. Its popularity only grew further after adopting modern culture entering the 2000s with the slogan- ?Cool as Ever.?

Horse racing community prepares for Thanksgiving

The equestrian world is waiting in anticipation for the upcoming Turf Festival at Del Mar next week coinciding with Thanksgiving. Keeping up with the traditions, @DelMarRacing also shared their extended Thanksgiving update on Twitter(X) and wrote: “Join us on Thanksgiving for a day stuffed with quality racing & carryovers. “

Apart from the race timings, what caught much attention was the bonus purse value. The post informed, “$94,601.32 Pick Six Carryover; BING CROSBY SEASON 2023 PICK 6 CARRYOVER: $94,601; SUPER HIGH 5 CARRYOVER: $20,277.” The East races have always been a royalty choice but this time it was for a different reason. After Churchill Downs scrapped a large section of its fall turf racing schedule, Del Mar became the talked about show.

The next big announcement!

The Turf Festival at Del Mar begins with the Red Carpet (G3) race on Thanksgiving Day, followed by the 42nd Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) race on Friday. Stone Age from Chad Brown’s stable and other notable horses like Astronaut, 2021 Del Mar Handicap winner; Order and Law, Cougar II 2023 (G3) winner; Balladeer, John Henry Turf Classic (G2) winner; and Salesman, Breeders’ Cup undercard Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G2) winner will participate in the races.

Now, the renowned events will take place in California for the next three years, which started with Santa Anita Park’s weekend final.
