Home/Olympics

In horse racing sports, it takes a hoard full of skills and determination to make a name. In a recent trial at Cranbourne, Imperatriz, the sprint sensation from Te Akau Racing, left jockey Michael Dee, her trainer, feeling less than impressed. Despite high expectations surrounding her upcoming first-up run at Flemington, Imperatriz’s lackluster trial performance has raised too many concerns within the racing community.

Finishing fifth and lacking her usual spark, Dee remains unworried about this. He even attributed her lackluster showing to a sense of casualness at her home track. However, Dee expressed his sentiments, acknowledging Imperatriz’s subdued demeanor during the trial.

While Imperatriz typically commands attention with her explosive speed, she seemed oddly subdued during the trial. This made her finish a lackluster fifth. Dee told Racing.com, “She was a little bit underwhelming, and it would have looked the same to the eye.” He also added, “But to be honest, everything seemed to be perfect with her.” He even emphasized that Imperatriz’s physical condition, temperament, and breathing appeared normal. Also, reflecting on past experiences, Dee remarked, “I’ve galloped her here in the past and also over at the racecourse.” He recalled how Imperatriz’s performance significantly improved when she was away from her familiar surroundings.

Dee blamed complacency for Imperatriz’s uninspiring horse racing performance. He even highlighted her lack of enthusiasm and defeat against competitors Bella Nipotina, Passive Aggressive, and I Am Unstoppable. Imperatriz struggled to match the pace in the trial that Cinderella Days won, contrasting with her sharper performance in a 900-meter jump at Mornington.

However, though Dee acknowledged Imperatriz’s lackluster performance, he remained optimistic about her prospects in the upcoming Lightning event at Flemington on February 17. Also, despite that disappointment, he was more than impressed and satisfied with the other group-winning mare.
