According to 7 News, Luke Nolen, the famous jockey from Australia, had a bad fall while practicing at the Pakenham racetrack. Nolen was found in significant pain under the inside rail and was hurt pretty badly. He was taken to the Alfred Hospital to undergo surgery to stop internal bleeding and fractures in his left ribs and pelvis.
While the exact circumstances of the fall remain unclear, Matthew Hyland of the Victorian Jockeys Association shared, “He’s had some lower back trouble in the past, a nagging back injury from a fair while now, I’m not sure if that’s related to what he’s got now.” Luke Nolan was making significant waves in 2024 and has been sidelined from racing since the Sandown meeting on January 17. Let’s take a look at his progress since then.
His 2024 horse racing season before the unfortunate fall
The 2024 season began on a challenging note for Nolen. Monsieur Dubai, trained by P. G. Moody and K. Coleman and ridden by Nolen, finished at the tail end of the pack, placing last out of 12 horses at Pakenham on January 11, 2024. Two days later, on January 13, 2024, Nolen piloted Forbidden City, also trained by P. G. Moody and K. Coleman, to a ninth-place finish out of 12 horses at Flemington. Despite the disappointing start, hopes were high for a turnaround. Before his unfortunate fall, Luke Nolen rode Amigo, trained by P. G. Moody and K. Coleman, and finished fifth out of eight horses at Sandown Hillside on January 17, 2024.

The race was shorter at 1000 meters, with a softer track compared to Lang Park’s race. Nolen guided Lang Park, trained by P. Payne, to a commendable second-place finish out of 8 horses at Sandown Hillside on the same day. Lang Park carried a weight of 60.5 kilograms and finished just 0.1 lengths behind the winner, with odds of $2.30. As Luke Nolen focuses on his recovery, fans eagerly anticipate his return to the racetrack, where they hope he will continue to leave his mark on the 2024 season.
