Pride of Jenni was crowned as the empress of the horse racing world before a full court of attendants at the Flemington tracks. The 6-year-old mare ran on full engines to secure the win at the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes on Saturday. His jockey Declan Bates had to stand up in protest to defend the mare?s victory as many whispering voices levied a huge blame on the champion horse. What could it be?

The pair of Declan Bates and Pride of Jenni had pinched two consecutive Group 1 victories in a matter of eight days. Following this remarkable feat, a few people came up with fascinating theories. Bates heard them all and chose to discredit them in a bold rebuttal. Now, a video has resurfaced on Twitter that will shut these naysayers for good.

Peter O’Brien of the Segenhoe Group uploaded a video on X today with the caption, ?The star of the Spring carnival Pride Of Jenni at only two hours old?. In the video, Pride of Jenni is quietly suckling from her mother. Even at just two hours old, she stood on her feet with remarkable strength for such a young foal. The video was meant to introduce the horse racing world to the new champion of the future. The commentator in the video referred to the young Pride of Jenni as a ?terrific quality foal?. Six years later, that same foal is the victress of Melbourne?s Group 1. She was inducted into the Group 1 for the first time on Saturday, but the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained mare stood on her trainer?s expectations.

Her brilliant run fetched the owners $3 million in cash prize. But the marvellous feat was overshadowed by controversy. Many horse racing spectators speculated that the frontrunning advantage gave Pride of Jenni the win on Saturday. Declan Bates denounced these assumptions, saying, “It is a discredit to her to say that I stole it because I think I’m happy with how I executed the tactics, but they are tactics that you can’t employ on many horses? You need a horse with a serious engine and a will to win”. With that, he shared the glory of the win with his partner. Although this explanation should have been enough to silence the doubters, the emotional story behind the mare’s name saved her from more grudges.
