Tokyo Racecourse is set for an exciting race on a 1 ½ miles, 12f distance on Sunday, November 26, 2023. A rising gem-Iresine who started his career in the French region has since developed into a powerful player with a stellar record at Longchamp. Accompanied by Marie Velon, his usual rider, the duo recently triumphed in the Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris, which was held just last month. Noting his prowess, World Horse Racing posted its picture as it was leaving for the event on Twitter(X); Captioned, Bound for Japan! French star IRESINE departed his stables near Lyon this morning, heading for Frankfurt and then Tokyo for his Japan Cup mission!

Iresine is a versatile horse when it comes to distance; he won the Prix Royal-Oak last year over almost two miles and then again this spring at Longchamp over an extended mile and a quarter in the Prix Ganay, which is another Group 1 winner. But it’s important to remember that both triumphs were achieved in muddy conditions, and were ridden in his usual fashion from a rearward position.

Renowned for being a highly-rated racehorse in the world, Equinox is preparing for an exciting run in the coveted G1 Japan Cup. Equinox’s impressive training results are a tribute to the careful training and planning that have gone into making this outstanding racehorse ready for the Japan Cup.

The current Japan Cup winner Vela Azul and the previous year’s Japanese Derby victor Do Deuce, who will once more be coached by Yutaka Take, are among Equinox’s rivals in Japan. Titleholder, another competitor, had difficulties in the mud at Longchamp during the Arc last year, although he has three Group 1 wins on his home course.

But the most fascinating competitor for Equinox is Liberty Island, a three-year-old filly. She has won all three of the Fillies Triple Crown races, making five of her six starts victories. She is undefeated this season. Equinox is now sixth on the list of most paid Japanese individuals, but if the Japan Cup winner takes home the 500 million yen prize, he would overtake Almond Eye and take the first spot.
