Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky possesses a great interest in the NFL. He is frequently spotted supporting teams during several leagues all around the year. A few hours before the Week 18 NFL schedule match between Miami Dolphins and New York Jets on 9 January, Wayne Gretzky wished for a miracle. More so, the miracle he wished for was related to the Ted Lasso series. 

After a string of losses, the Miami Dolphins were relieved of great pressure today morning. In a neck-to-neck match with New York Jets, the Dolphins’ Sanders got the victory with a final score of 11 – 6. Moreover, prior to the hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky hoped for a Ted Lasso miracle looking at the previous performances of the Dolphins. 

Wayne Gretzky wrote a special message for Miami Dolphins

The match between Miami Dolphins and New York Jets was highly anticipated by the Dolphin fans. It was a make-or-break deal for them. Amidst high anticipation, legend Wayne Gretzky also wished for a miracle just like the comedy series Ted Lasso. A few hours before the match Gretzky shared an Instagram story initially uploaded by Ted Lasso actor Kola Bokinni. The hockey legend shared the frame with Bokkini, son-in-law Dustin Johnson and tennis player Billy Harris. 

Gretzky and his group seemed to be sitting in a special place at the Hard Rock Stadium. A few moments before the match commenced, Gretzky sharked Bokinni’s group picture and captioned it as,“Thankyou @miamidolphins hoping for a Ted Lasso miracle. Believe.”

In the film, Ted used an impactful phrase to motivate his team they could win, even when the chances were very low. In the final match against Man City, Ted asked his team in the half time, “do you believe in miracles?” He used the phrase as a medium to arouse hope in the team.

Similar to the concept in Ted Lasso, Gretzky wished that Dolphins players would believe in themselves and win the match against the Jets. Well, the miracle did take place as the Miami Dolphins made it to an amazing win.

In 2021, NFL star Tom Brady aimed for his seventh ring in the following matches. Gretzky who is an ardent NFL fan praised Brady in an interview, “I think that he’s reached the top of the mountain as far as comparing athletes in each sport for what he’s done”,
