Wayne Gretzky has witnessed hockey’s most glorious years in his 20 seasons career. Throughout his journey, he has made rivals and friends. In a podcast interview with Spittin’ Chiclets, Wayne recalled his Edmonton days and the players with whom he had the best time.

The legendary hockey player also mentioned the generous personality of his fellow player, Mark Messier. Wayne stated he often tells his kids that Mark was one of the first players he played with. He further told:

” I can honestly say that if him and i walked out after a game and i scored three goals he was genuinely happier than i was and you would think that he got the three goals so his unselfishness was so infectious throughout the locker room and throughout our organization.”

When Wayne Gretzky began playing with Mark Messier, they developed a deep friendship. More so, their friendship became so deep that Mark even appeared as Wayne’s groomsman on his wedding day with Janet Jones.

Mark Messier is a player who believed in making his teammates feel included in the game. He realized that he could not carry a team on his shoulders alone. Therefore, he was a team player who celebrated his teammate’s contribution like it was his.

After achieving 800 goals in December 2022, hockey enthusiasts have begun to speculate that Ovechkin would potentially break Wayne Gretzky’s 894 goals record. Amidst veterans and fans discussing it, everyone eagerly waited for the legend Gretzky’s thoughts.
