Gymnastics is a sport full of poise, grace, and resilience. However, the athletes we see on the mat, who show undeniable prowess, sometimes have pasts marred with struggles. One such gymnast is Jordan Chiles. Chiles captures attention like no other on the floor with her sassy moves and bold style. However, behind this cheerful and stunning star is a heartbreaking past. In 2021, Chiles opened up about how her coach used to verbally abuse her, and that nearly made her quit gymnastics. Chiles spoke to actor Taraji P. Henson and co-host Tracie Jade on an episode of “Peace of Mind with Taraji,” saying, “So I had a coach verbally abuse me. She called me fat. She said, I looked like a donut”.
Chiles even said how she would monitor her eating habits and pass comments about them, making her feel conscious and triggered. This would often happen, and Chiles even thought of quitting. However, the gymnast ended up seeing a sports psychologist, and that finally began to change her mindset. Fast forward to the present day, and she is one of the most popular names in America and the world for gymnastics. Years after this incident, Jordan opened up once more and shared a never-heard-before aspect of her gymnastics journey.
