Coming into his second Olympics, Brody Malone hoped to break the curse that he was unable to back in Tokyo. With shining performances in the World Challenge Cup and the Pan American Games, the hype around Malone was reaching the sky. Touted as the biggest gold medal prospect for America’s men’s gymnastics competition, Malone too looked locked in to deliver a spirited performance.
Unfortunately, things did not go down as expected in Paris as well. While Malone felt confident going into his routines, fate had other ideas. Competing on the high bars, Malone botched his routine and fell not once but twice. And that was not all. The US gymnast also fell from the pommel horse routine once, making him unable to compete in the all-around finals. Having a mediocre competition, Malone was placed 61st on floor exercise with 12.66 points. Earning a 12.100 after his fall, the 24-year-old got a 55th rank on the pommel horse.
Recently, appearing on an episode of Undaunted. Life: A Man’s Podcast, Malone reminisced about his dismal outing in Paris. The 24-year-old termed his performance as the worst in his life. “Yeah, I mean, definitely the first day of competition was not good.

That’s probably the worst competition that I personally have ever had. We knew going into it that there were going to be mistakes, and there was going to be a lot of nerves coming into play. And, for me especially, it was not a very good day. Like I said, it was the worst competition of my life. It was a pretty uncharacteristic performance, and I was very unhappy with it,” said the Olympic bronze medalist. Malone also stated that he and his teammates together decided to calm out their nerves on the first day of the competition.
Luckily for Malone, he had a spare day in between to regain his focus. The 2x Olympian mentioned that he went back to the drawing board to address his flaws. This gave him ample time to reset and get ready for the team finals. According to the Olympian, this was the first time going into the finals the entire team felt that they could pull out a victory.
And while Malone had an off day, the likes of Frederick Richard and Stephen Nedoroscik ensured that the bronze medal was there for the USA to clinch. Now, Brody Malone might not have lived up to the billing in Paris. His competing in Paris was a big thing, as a devastating knee injury almost dashed his dreams of making the Olympics.

Brody Malone’s Impeccable Journey To Olympic Glory
Just a year ago, in 2023, Brody Malone never thought that he would be able to compete in the Paris Olympics. Competing in the DTB Pokal in Germany, Malone fell into the quagmire. During his final move, the US gymnast lost his control and suffered a brutal fall. The injury was gruesome, and his knees had multiple fractures and severed ligaments. Such an injury made Malone lose the ability to walk, as a Paris outing looked impossible at that point.

However, Malone made an incredible recovery just in time to make it to Paris. And a large part of his recovery became possible for his fiancee, Serena Ortiz. Ortiz and her father took turns to care for and look after the 3x US National Champion. Recalling the phase, Malone opined that his injury strengthened their bond and brought them ever closer. “By having her there, literally waiting on me hand and foot, I could see the love in her heart, and it just made me realize how special of a person she was,” said Malone. Thus, with a mixed bag in Paris, it remains to be seen how things pan out for Brody Malone in the future.
