19-year-old Skye Blakely’s bid to make it to the Paris Olympics came to an end after she ruptured her Achilles. “I’m devastated and heartbroken but I believe everything happens for a reason,” the two-time world champion wrote on her Instagram. However, just two weeks after the incident and only a week removed from surgery, the gymnastics icon is already back in the gym.

“I was so close to reaching my dream but this injury was unavoidable,” added the gymnast. As 2x team gold medalist at the world championship lamented not making it through Olympic trials, she highlighted the uncertainty an athlete faces every time they perform a skill. However, unlike her Achilles tendon, Blakely’s spirit didn’t give out.

Skye Blakely posted a clip of herself practicing press handstands on a balance beam, stunning gymnastics fans. The 2022 Pan-American Games silver medalist had her entire lower right leg wrapped up in a cast. On average you have to wear that cast for 6 to 12 weeks after an Achilles surgery. However, it seems anything is possible for the determined 19-year-old.

Unfortunately, this was the second time the young gymnast had no choice but to withdraw from the Olympic trials. Skye Blakely tore a ligament in her elbow on the first day of the Tokyo Olympic trials. The injury forced the Florida Gators star to bow off the competition even before she could finish day one. However, the setbacks haven’t dampened the young gymnast’s spirit.

The song she chose to accompany her Instagram story also hinted at the Frisco, Texas resident’s burning desire to return to full form. Blakely chose Saturn by SZA, but it was the part she chose to play during the clip that gave an insight into her mindset. “Find something worth saving, It’s all for the taking,” sang SZA as Skye Blakely pushed through the reps. Her indomitable spirit left eh fans grappling with shock and awe.
