Simone Biles’ story experiences a paradigm shift when Ronald “Ron” and Nellie Biles walk into her life with open arms! And truly, a shift for the better. Biles spent her early years in foster care until Ron and Nellie adopted her. She was 6 years old during the same. But the couple did not just adopt Simone but also her sister Adria. Ron and Nellie brought the sisters home from Texas but wondered if they would bond with them. But as Nellie herself puts it, “You wake up one day, and you realize that you would do anything for these children and that you would die for these children. And when that feeling comes, that’s when you know you are truly a mother.”

The couple did not just offer Biles a stable and new home but supported her every step of the way. “If not for my parents and adoption, I wouldn’t be here today,” she added. In an appreciation post Biles put up on her Instagram in 2021, she says “Thanks for making sacrifices since Day 1 so I can live out my dream. But most importantly, thanks for always being there for me through the highs and lows. You guys are the absolute best. I love y’all.” But the question that remains is, how did Biles end up in the system in the first place?

Simone Biles’ biological mother is Shanon Biles, whose path has been paved by battles. Shanon has dealt with addiction most of her life, which led Biles to be in the system. Biles and her biological mother are now, not in regular contact. However, Shanon takes pride in her daughter’s wins and lives in the hope of redemption.“It was hard to give up my kids, but I had to do what I had to do. I wasn’t able to care for them. I was still using and [my father] didn’t want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn’t right,” said Shanon in a recent interview.

All that heartbreak, but Shanon still awaits redemption. Her longing is almost palpable. “I would like to make amends with Simone personally – I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward?” Despite Shanon not being at Biles’ milestones, like her wedding, her pride in her daughter remains untouched. “I want to let her know I love her and I’m very proud of her. But I’m still waiting.” But that’s not all, she continued to say, “I can’t keep dwelling on it. Whenever she’s ready I’m here and willing to receive.” As Shanon’s redemption journey continues, Simone Biles is off to her next adventure! And the world patiently yet eagerly, like Shanon, awaits.
