How much of MyKayla Skinner's success can be attributed to her supportive husband, Jonas Harmer?

We all know MyKayla Skinner as one of the most prominent names in the US gymnastics community. Now retired, Skinner has four Pan American golds and three World Championship golds to her name. But Skinner’s crowning moment came at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Competing in the vault, Skinner gave her fans a pleasant surprise by finishing second and winning the silver medal. However, there is another side to MyKayla Skinner that often goes unnoticed.

MyKayla Skinner is an American Ninja Warrior! While names like Shawn Johnson, Amanda Borden, Michael Andrew, and more signed up for ANW, Skinner looked quite the pro facing the challenges. And when she was not competing, Skinner made sure to voice her support the loudest for her husband, Jonas Harmer.

According to Jonas Harmer’s Instagram bio, he is a competitive rower and the American Ninja Warrior Champion three times. However, besides winning the ANW in 2014, 2015, and 2016, Harmer is also the co-founder of Holiday Decorators of Salt Lake. His LinkedIn profile further describes him as a cryptographic money trader and a YouTuber. After finishing his schooling, Harmer pursued a major in Entrepreneurial Management at Brigham Young University.

Harmer crossed paths with MyKayla Skinner via a mutual friend back in Utah. After taking a liking to each other, the duo started dating in 2017. After being lovestruck for almost two years, Harmer and Skinner announced their engagement in October 2019. It was later in the same year that the couple tied the knot. Ever since their marriage, both Skinner and Harmer have never shied away from expressing their love for each other.

In a bid to try something new, Skinner decided to enroll herself in the ANW Couples Championship. Reflecting on the same, Harmer mentioned that they manifested the idea well before the Tokyo Olympics. Unfortunately, Skinner’s availability became a concern. But even after the Olympics, Skinner could not muster the courage to say ‘yes’ despite being interested in the possibility. It was only after Harmer applied solo and Skinner was asked for a second time that she agreed.

Recently, celebrating four years of their marriage, MyKayla Skinner uploaded a heartwarming video compilation of their memorable moments. She also penned down an emotional note expressing her undying love for her husband. Meanwhile, Skinner’s already happy relationship got a further boost as the couple welcomed a new member to their family in 2023 after 7 years of togetherness.

She also added that, after retiring from the gymnastics arena after the Tokyo Olympics, she was quite ready to embrace motherhood. However, her husband was a little skeptical about the same. But soon they overcame all fears and doubts and together embraced the best phase of their lives as they planned to welcome a new member to their family.

Although the Harmer couple joyfully embraced parenthood, their little one kept them on their toes. Right after Lottie was born, their life wasn’t a bed full of roses. However, the duo always had each other’s support. A few months after Lottie’s birth, MyKayla Skinner and her little one had to seek medical assistance frequently. But, Skinner also had to train her husband to embrace fatherhood while she was learning the skills to be a perfect mom to little Charlotte.

Jonas Harmer could not take care of and calm down Lottie while she would cry out loud. MyKayla took to her social media and shared a humorous story of how the father-daughter duo created chaos while Lottie’s mom went to buy some medicine. Complaining against Harmer, Skinner stated, “Jonas can’t handle when she cries. He called me like three times in a store freaking out when I went to get a medicine.”

Harmer too had his counterargument ready as he said, “I can handle for like two minutes. Cause you took forever, you went to get two things, and I was there for like half an hour with a screaming baby.” Nevertheless, with the endless love that they shower upon each other and their little one, the Harmer family would rise and shine together, going against all hardships that came their way.
