Brazil just added yet another medal in Paris, and how? A stellar performance by Rebeca Andrade & Co. got the country its first medal in artistic gymnastics in the French capital. While the squad all dished out impressive performances, it was 24-year-old Flavia Saraiva who wowed the crowd with consistently above-13 scores in all four events. However, it wasn’t just her skills that earned her admiration from the onlookers.
According to the official Paris Olympics website, the Rio de Janeiro native boasts several accolades on her resume, despite her young age. Two medals in the World Championships in 2023, three golds in the PanAm Championships, and several medals in the Pan-American Games make it clear why she was one of the top contenders to represent Brazil on the grand stage.
While warming up on the Uneven Bars, Saraiva took a nasty fall after kneeing herself in the face. Despite the painful snag, Flavia got herself up and completed a stellar UB routine. Her 13.666 score helped Brazil stay in medal contention. While the country ultimately had to settle for a bronze, the Brazilian’s grit was astounding, and the crowd made sure her passion for the sport was hailed with an emphatic round of applause after her bar routine.

While Saraiva’s passion for the sport made fans laud her efforts, all eyes were on Andrade among the Brazilian delegates at the women’s artistic gymnastics finals. The 25-year-old once again posted massive scores in her vault routine (15.100, even better than her average score on the apparatus from the Tokyo Olympics) while also recording above-14 in all other rotations.
