Jade Ashtyn Carey is an American artistic gymnast who is best known for her gymnastic prowess, vault, and floor exercises. Her commendable performances in the World Championships and Olympics bagged her eight precious medals, making her the sixth most decorated American female gymnast behind Nastia Liukin.
The 24-year-old gymnast has an impressive medal collection, including a gold medal in floor exercise at the Tokyo Olympics, silver medals in vault and floor exercise, and a bronze medal at the 2017 and 2022 World Championships, respectively.

How has Carey’s gymnastics career been so far?
The artistic gymnast hails from Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on May 27, 2000, to parents Brian Carey and Danielle Mitchell-Greenberg. The couple owned a gym, where Jade Carey first encountered the equipment and began her formal training at the age of two! Brian and Danielle Mitchell are former gymnasts, although the two are currently divorced.
Jade Carey’s formal gymnastics training began in 2002 and her father and coach Brian Carey played a prominent role in her development. The Olympian trained to her best at the Phoenix, Arizona, Sunrays gym. After completing her Junior Olympics Nationals, she was invited to the elite national team camp at the end of 2016. Later in 2017, the gymnast qualified for her elite status.
Followed by her participation in the US National Women’s Gymnastics Championship, where she clinched gold and silver in vault and floor exercises, respectively. Her performance in the championship helped Carey secure her spot on the national team!

Despite her impressive performances, Jade Carey declined an invitation to compete in the 2018 World Championship to which USAG revealed that Carey wanted to qualify for the 2020 Olympics as an individual through the apparatus World Cup series, which was introduced by the International Gymnastics Federation in 2015. Interestingly, the Olympian delayed her enrollment at Oregon State University to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Where is Jade Carey presently studying?
Jade Carey planned to commence her NCAA gymnastic career with Oregon State University in 2018–19, yet she deferred her enrollment to the university to participate in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. She later began her academic career in 2020–21, deferring her other competitive debuts until after the Olympics.

The Arizona native is currently studying at Oregon State University as a student and athlete. She has currently qualified for the Paris Olympics trials and will soon be seen competing at the Summer Olympics in 2024 led by gymnast goat Simone Biles.
