By now, it’s no news that Simone Biles is one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. And yet, on the night of August 5 at the Bercy Arena in the French capital, she was bested by Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade in the women’s individual floor exercise. But was Biles’ chance to bag another piece of gold hardware upon the grandest stage stolen? Stunning new details could suggest so!
While the country is being rocked by Jordan Chiles’ misfortunes in Paris from last month, incredible new evidence ponders if Biles was also wronged by the match officials at the 33rd Olympic Games. A post by the official Gymnastics Now X account took to the platform on September 16 to highlight how Cecile Landi and Laurent Landi raised the inquiry for Chiles within the one-minute mark. However, a surprising new detail is creating more waves.
As soon as the final scores of the women’s floor exercise were displayed on the board, Laurent’s voice could be heard in the video clip accompanying the post. While he mostly talks in his native tongue French, the words “Simone” and “inquiry” can be deciphered despite the ruckus around. Biles ultimately walked away with a silver in the event, but it’s worth noting that the Team USA coaches thought that, like Jordan, Biles’ scores were also not a proper portrayal of her skills in the floor exercise.

Cecile informs Biles that the former’s husband has raised an inquiry on behalf of the 27-year-old. But things don’t go according to their plans, and subsequently, Cecile and Laurent get into a heated discussion in French. After some time, Cecile asks if Laurent wants to try to raise an inquiry for Chiles instead. But the Landis’ failed attempt to rectify Simone’s didn’t seem to affect the 7x Olympic gold medalist all that much.
Here is the video of Jordan Chiles’ inquiry with audio ⬇️

In a later post on X, Biles noted how she has come to terms with the results from the 33rd Olympics. However, she also asserted that a little sadness couldn’t be helped. “upsetting how it wasn’t processed but I’m not mad at the results,” wrote Biles in her post on September 17, while lauding Andrade for her superior performance in Paris in the women’s floor exercise final. And yet, she had to reiterate how the CAS dragged her BFF through the mud.
A worse fate for Simone Biles’ bestie

“JUSTICE FOR JORDAN…ya hear me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Simone sounded her frustration over how Chiles’ nightmare didn’t seem to end. Five days after Chiles’ score was rectified and the UCLA star was awarded the bronze medal in Paris, she was directed by the FIG and the CAS to hand over her spoils to Romania’s Ana Barbosu. But the 23-year-old’s camp wouldn’t take the order lightly and everyone stakeholder with a reasonable voice stepped in to help Chiles. However, the gymnastics star at the center of the drama was aghast by the turn of events and decided to flee social media to protect her mental health. But powerful forces were set in motion. It was quickly pointed out that discrepancies marked the IOC’s inquiry handling.

“The Panel was surprised that the FIG was not able to identify the person who recorded the information as to time, and that no clear and established mechanism appeared to be in place to address so important a matter as the timing of a request for an inquiry,”: was only one of the many issues that raised eyebrows during the hearings. US politicians also entered the field to highlight how Chiles was wrongly scored in the first place. “2 issues at conflict here: the judges’ failure to score correctly & an alleged 4-second delay on appealing the score,” said Memphis Representative Stephen Cohen.
But can Simone’s relentless support bring Chiles the much-needed good news anytime soon? Only time will tell.
