The onset of the 2024 NCAA Gymnastics season on January 4 has brought new excitement to college sports. Each passing day, one or the other collegiate athlete takes the spotlight with breathtaking routines. Be it the sheer accuracy of Audrey Davis or the ever-mesmerizing floor routine of Olivia Dunne, one is left awestruck watching the exhilarating action unfold in gymnastics. And now, one more star has entered the list as California Bears clashed with Oregon State.

Bears were ranked No. 2 while Oregon State was placed at 16 as the two giants clashed at Haas Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. No upsets were recorded but it was a mesmerizing routine from a California junior who stole the show.

California junior steals the show

In the latest update on Twitter, California Women’s Gymnastics highlighted the picture-perfect floor routine of junior Mya Lauzon as she delivered a 9.975-point performance. “Another 9.975 for Mya as she nails the floor exercise!“, Bears captioned. Dancing perfectly to the musical beats, Mya was sensational with flips and in-air jumps while her teammates kept cheering her up on the sidelines.

Swift turns were the highlight of Mya’s performance who had a breakout season in 2023. She was named on the NCAA All-American vault and Balance Beam team. The Bears gymnast was also named on the First Team All-Pac-12 becoming the first Bear to win the Pac-12 beam title and recording a perfect 10 on beam. As the contest progressed, Mya’s contribution proved crucial for California dismantling the Oregon State.

California Bears dismantle Oregon in NCAA gymnastics Showdown

Oregon State suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of California as Bears received 197.950 to 196.775 at Haas Pavilion. Bears were led by top performances from Mya Lauzon and sophomore eMjae Frazier who have been in excellent form since the start of the season. Both eMjae and Mya recorded all-around scores of 39.700 while California registered historic scores on beam and floor exercises.

Bears registered 49.675 on the beam marking their 2nd best score in history while floor scores of 49.600 were their third-best. The star performers on the beam were Junior Maddie Williams with a terrific 9.950 and senior Gabby Perea with 9.925. The team will be next time in action in Arizona against No. 1 Oklahoma.
