Jordan Chiles’ post-Olympic saga has been anything but a smooth landing. After snagging a bronze medal in Paris, she was hit with a surprising request to return the prize. Cue the public outcry as fans and critics alike rallied against the authorities, and Chiles herself faced a whirlwind of criticism for initially resisting the call to return the medal. It’s been a real rollercoaster for the UCLA Bruins star, but she’s finally starting to find her footing again.
Ever since Chiles’ post-Olympic trouble came to light, a tug-of-war has ensued on social media. While USAG and its allies continue to find ways to keep Joran’s medal within the country, an amicable solution to the problem looks to be off the table for now. Naturally, Chiles can’t also hide her frustration over the experience!
In an interview with Way Up With Angela Yee on August 23, the 23-year-old star revealed how some fans irked her during the ongoing tribulation in her life. In the YouTube upload, she underscored how a lot of the hate coming her way is from casual fans who don’t follow the happenings of the sport and shouldn’t have a say in the matter. “…that’s what gets on my nerves they only follow our sport when they come and it’s the Olympic part of things,” grumbled Simone Biles’ gymnastics bff.

“…Well, you only saw the two days that we competed right, and you’re already complaining about something,” Chiles vented further, claiming that people who actually have a matter should be the ones voicing their opinions on whether she should keep her Olympic memento or part ways with it.
After things took a downward turn after the CAS made its decision public, a lot of the comments aimed at Jordan alleged that she cheated in the Floor Exercise final in the French capital, and Chiles had it from people who don’t have comprehensive knowledge of how scoring works in gymnastics.

“You don’t see anything before that, you don’t even tune in to half of the things we might post on social media. It’s only during the Olympic Games, so those people, all they see is oh she did this,” frowned Jordan. But she also made it clear that she now sees through the hate and understands that paying heed to the harsh words isn’t the clever thing to do. But it wasn’t an easy realization for Chiles to arrive at.
Jordan Chiles’ kin has her back
Five days after her triumphs in Paris, the American star was slammed with the CAS’ directive asking her bronze to Romania’s Ana Barbosu. “While celebrating my Olympic accomplishments, I heard the devastating news that my bronze medal had been stripped away,” Chiles wrote on X ten days ago, after she returned from her social media hiatus after learning the situation. With the CAS making its stance on the matter clear, fans clamored across the internet, and not all of the comments were nice.

Along with being criticized for how she had her score adjusted at the individual Floor Exercise final, Chiles also had to face racial attacks. Her mother, Gina Chiles, wrote on X on August 10, “My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched…and she’s being called disgusting things.” She went on to address the online hate against Jordan and expressed her frustration on seeing such things still exist today.
Jordan’s sister Jazmin also lashed out against the unprecedented attacks Jordan was being made to go through. The gymnast’s sibling also brought attention to how the entire drama was given way after the judges at the Paris Olympics fumbled during their job in the first place. On the other hand, while the Romanian national gymnastics apex body noted that its aim wasn’t to take away Chiles’ medal, the CAS didn’t seem to budge from its stance. Amidst all the chaos, Chiles retreated from social media. However, she has now returned and looks like is navigating her way through the muddy waters.
