Is Chloe San Jose unfairly judged by Carlos Yulo's family, or is there more to the story?

As the saying goes, “Nothing can separate hearts that truly love.” This rings true for Olympic champion Carlos Yulo and his longtime girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, whose story began when she became a fan of Carlos. However, before being known as Carlos’ girlfriend, Chloe had already established her own identity as a model and social media influencer, boasting an impressive Instagram following of 193,000. Her Instagram feed is filled with pictures of her and Carlos, showing love is in the air. While she may always appear happy, as people say, “She’s laughing,” it’s important to remember that appearances can be deceiving—never judge a book by its cover.

Chloe San Jose was born in the Philippines but grew up in Australia, and her story has no shortage of layers. She often talks about how much she used to love going to school, saying, “I really liked going to school. If I go to school, it means that I don’t have to spend time at home.” That really says something about her background. In an interview with Toni Gonzaga on her YouTube vlog, Chloe opened up about her experience with domestic violence. This has definitely shaped her journey now and made her the strong person she is today, but it was not easy at all.

Chloe San Jose’s early life was full of challenges. She was born to Maria Fe San Jose, but not much is known about her father, who remains a mystery. After her parents separated when she was just two or four years old, Chloe was raised by her grandmother, who became a strong mother figure for her. Growing up surrounded by uncles, aunts, and cousins, she didn’t really experience having a mom until she moved to Australia at eleven in 2013. That change brought a lot of adjustments, and Chloe recalls, “I totally didn’t know her.” Moving to Australia was tough, especially when it came to building relationships with her family there.

Life in Australia felt pretty normal for Chloe, and she completed both primary and high school. However, the years from eleven to eighteen were tough—not because of adjusting to a new country but because of family dynamics. She opened up about her experience, saying, “I experienced domestic violence.” She further added, “I experienced and witnessed also… that’s why I wanted to move out when I was 16. But since I was still a minor, I couldn’t. So I had to wait for two years so I can move out… it’s not only physical but also verbal.

Just to stay away from that toxicity, Chloe really enjoyed going to school because it offered an escape from home life. She was eager to be out of the house, participating in extracurricular activities even on Saturdays to avoid being there. However, the decision to move out came to a head during a dinner that escalated into a heated argument. Frustrated and feeling trapped, she declared she couldn’t take it anymore.

What started as a normal meal quickly turned into a confrontation, leading her family to tell her to just move out. Overwhelmed, Chloe retreated to her room, but they followed her and continued to provoke her. Eventually, feeling triggered and upset, she packed her belongings into her backpack. Thankfully, her best friend and her family welcomed her in, providing a safe haven during that difficult time. Now, though she’s built a life with the love of her life, Carlos Yulo, her challenges persist as she continues to face blame and criticism from his mother.

Family tensions amid Carlos Yulo’s Olympic triumph

Carlos Yulo, who won two gold medals at the recent Paris Olympics, found himself at odds with his mother over his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose. Carlos shared that his mother reacted negatively to their relationship, expressing her disapproval before even meeting Chloe. She judged Chloe based on her appearance and behavior, failing to understand that Chloe’s upbringing in Australia shaped her cultural perspective.

This judgmental attitude created tension between Carlos and his mother, as he felt the need to stand up for Chloe, particularly after being in a loving relationship for over four years.

The conflict intensified when Carlos Yulo accused his mother of withdrawing money from his accounts without his consent and alleged that she had managed his finances without his oversight during a period of incapacity. On his part, he found evidence of her accessing his prize money through withdrawals after he regained control of his accounts.

In response, his mother defended her actions, stating that she had only taken the money out of concern for his financial future. She also expressed her belief that Carlos’s relationship with Chloe was influenced by financial considerations, implying that Chloe was not genuinely invested in Carlos.

Even Carlos Yulo’s father, Mark Andrew Yulo, shared screenshots revealing the alleged “disrespect” shown by Chloe San Jose toward Angelica Yulo. In a Facebook post by family friend Gerald Fajardo, San Jose referred to Angelica as a “coward” for supposedly making jabs at her on social media and compared her behavior at church to that of an “adorable fish,” while likening her to a “villain shark” at home.

Fajardo claimed that San Jose belittled Carlos’s family, sold him a laptop worth P50,000 while still using it, and was the reason behind Carlos accusing Angelica of being a “thief” and a “liar.” Despite the ongoing controversies and family tensions, it seems the troubles surrounding Carlos Yulo’s girlfriend are far from over.
