Sisters will always be sisters. Even when the love of your life revels in their achievement, your sister won’t miss the chance to try to throw shade at their milestone. While Olivia Dunne can’t stop gushing about his boyfriend Paul Skenes’ seminal career accolade, her elder sister Julz looks determined to have a chuckle at their expense.
The MLB pitcher Skenes recently was named the National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year. Naturally, the LSU gymnast is over the moon about the feather that her beau added to his cap. But Julz, being true to her peppy self, isn’t shy to take the opportunity as a chance to have a few laughs.
Olivia Dunne took to Instagram on November 19 to share several snippets of herself and Skenes celebrating the latter’s latest feat. Captioned, “that was cool,” the social media update shows the couple in uplifted spirits after the news came to light. However, the older Dunne sibling soon arrived in the comment section to note what she felt had helped Skenes add a new laurel to his medal cabinet.

“Beginners luck,” sneered Julz. However, looking at just how elated her sister looks in Livvy’s IG post, it could be hard to dampen the mood that the LSU queen and her beloved are in right now. Still, with her jibe, the reigning NCAA gymnastics champ’s sister only added to the trolling jeers that have Skenes’ way ever since his ROTY award announcement was revealed to the fans.

Over the past couple of days, social media has been taken over by fans who can’t help but notice how emotionless Skenes looked during the award announcement program on the MLB network. The Pittsburgh star’s stoic demeanor, compared to Dunne’s over-enthusiastic expressions prompted many fans to label the entire exchange as awkward. Even Olivia made fun of her bae’s subdued form in an Instagram story, which she later removed for unknown reasons. However, whatever the trolls can come up with, they can hardly take away the incredible achievement he’s pulled off in his debut year.

2024 has been an incredible season for Skenes. From his time in the Triple-A to starting his MLB season in mid-May and going on to stun everyone with his pitching skills, Paul has been on a roll. Ending the season with 170 strikeouts and an 11-3 record in 23 starts, Skenes even got himself a spot in the MLB All-Star first-team solidifying his status as a true force to be reckoned with. Naturally, when the MLB’s unanimous decision was revealed, Olivia Dunne couldn’t help but reiterate how “well deserved” the award was.

On the other hand, Dunne herself has a lot to look ahead to. Last season, the Tigers made history by bagging the NCAA title for the first time in program history, and this year, Livvy hopes to end her collegiate career by defending the championship as well. Dunne will have Haleigh Bryant as her teammate this year as well, who last season entered into the coveted Gym Slam club thanks to her phenomenal form week after week. While Dunne has been overly jubilant at her boyfriend’s feat, will Skenes also show up at LSU’s meets to return the favor and ensure Livvy has something to keep her motivated? What do you reckon?
