In less than a week, Simone Biles and the gymnastics stars of Team USA will begin their journey to the Paris Olympics. And this time, they’ll have a legendary American star joining them in the City of Love. On January 1, 2024, Snoop Dogg promised sports fans and athletes alike, “I will see y’all in Paris, Bonjour.” True to his word, Snoop Dogg will provide regular updates from Paris for the Olympic Primetime Show, reporting for NBC and Peacock as a “Special Correspondent.” This isn’t Snoop Dogg’s first involvement with the big games. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, the rapper provided viral commentary that still captivates audiences three years later.
Simone Biles, who withdrew from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to her mental health challenges because of the “Twisties,” was ridiculed by many. Amid the hate, the gymnast received ‘Love and Support’ from Snoop Dogg for her decision to pull out of the competition and focus on her health. Several others also joined Snoop Dogg in supporting Biles.

In 2021, Hollywood actor and comedian Kevin Hart, alongside the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” star Snoop Dogg, brought their unique flair to recapping the 2021 Tokyo Olympics on the NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock’s “Olympic Highlights With Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg.” In a special segment, they covered the Team USA gymnastics events, highlighting Simone Biles, who was going through a rough time miles away from home. Biles had withdrawn from most of the competition due to the “Twisties,” but she later confirmed on August 2 that she would compete in the beam final. During this segment, Snoop Dogg and Kevin Hart expressed their admiration and support for Biles, particularly when she won the bronze medal for her routine on the beam.
We knew @KevinHart4Real and @SnoopDogg's #TokyoOlympics commentary would make us laugh, but we didn't expect their tribute to @Simone_Biles to make us cry. 🥺 pic.twitter.com/9reUDaVxZ4

With their classic comedy style, the duo provided hilarious commentary on her routine but also took time to appreciate Simone’s resilience. Kevin Hart shared, “Even if she didn’t medal, it wouldn’t change a thing about how we feel about you. Simone, we’ve watched your journey in this year’s Olympics, and we have nothing but love and support for you.”
Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg, with tender-hearted words, told the Olympian, “You are the greatest American gymnast in history. We want to give you a double shoutout for being a survivor, a fighter, a spokesperson, a role model, a mentor.” Touched by their words, Simone Biles retweeted a snippet of this heartfelt moment. As we reflect on these words and the strength it took Simone Biles to make the toughest decision on the pinnacle stage, she also received bashful hate for her decision.

Nothing could deter Simone as she returns to the Olympics stage
When Simone Biles appeared on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast this year, she shared a striking revelation with Alex Cooper, saying, “I thought I was going to be banned from America. Because that’s what they tell you, ‘Don’t come back if it’s not gold.’” And very much so, while many applauded the queen, others unleashed unnecessary and hateful comments towards her. The backlash Simone Biles faced for withdrawing from the Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues was intense and, at times, vicious. Amber Athey declared in The Spectator, “Simone Biles is a quitter. Biles may be the most skilled gymnast ever, but a true champion is someone who perseveres even when the competition gets tough.”

Charlie Kirk labeled Biles as “immature,” and a “selfish sociopath,” while Piers Morgan joined in on the hate, claiming that the Olympian “just gave up at the first hurdle” in Tokyo. Even many of her fans clapped back at those who were supporting Biles’ fight against mental trauma. A Reddit post highlighted how Biles received comments like, “Stop praising people for quitting. Its actually embarrassing,” and “She buckled when it counted. More importantly, she quit when her teammates were counting on her. She’s a Loser with a capital L.” Yet, Simone Biles and her loved ones did not let the hate bring her down.
In response, she posted a picture of her two medals from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, stating, “I’ve pushed through so much the past couple of years, the word quitter is not in my vocabulary. For some of you, that may be how you define me, but keep talking because I can’t hear you over my 7 Olympic medals, which tied me for the most decorated gymnast EVER as well as the most decorated American gymnast.” As we reflect on her journey through the tumult, the hate, the love, and the comeback, fans applaud Simone Biles’ grace and dominance as the most decorated gymnast ever, eagerly awaiting her historic climb to the Paris Olympics.
