Does Flavor Flav's support for Jordan Chiles get overshadowed by his controversial remark on women's sports?

Undoubtedly, when it comes to “supporting females,” Flavor Flav truly shines! After Jordan Chiles was stripped of her Olympic bronze medal in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Games—a move that sparked quite a bit of controversy—Flavor Flav stepped up in a big way. He surprised everyone by presenting Jordan with her very own bronze clock at the 2024 VMAs. After rallying behind Jordan, Flavor Flav didn’t stop there.

Just a month and a half later, he was back in action, this time supporting a groundbreaking new track event called Athlos, launched by Alexis Ohanian. Athlos NYC made its exciting debut on September 26th, and Flavor Flav was right there, cheering for the incredible women athletes, even though he shared some uplifting words of encouragement too.

As Ohanian aimed to recreate his success on the track at Icahn Stadium, he has brought together some of the sport’s brightest stars for Athlos’ inaugural meet, offering super-sized prize money and an athlete-first approach. The atmosphere was absolutely electric, with a vibrant crowd that added to the excitement!

Flavor Flav was right there soaking it all in, and he couldn’t help but share his thoughts about the lively scene: “The energy here is amazing. When I walked in here I could feel the electricity walking inside this place for real. I’m getting a lot of love from a lot of people too. I went over and got to see my boy D Nice, what’s known to before many many many years.” He then made a surprising revelation about his commitment to supporting women’s sports.

Flav said, “Honestly, I never thought about it. This is something that just happened. This is what God put me on this earth to be.” However, Flavor Flav was also wearing a badge that said “Support Women’s Sports,” and it’s clear he’s genuinely committed to that cause.

But he had hinted earlier that he would be attending the Athlos NYC event back on September 22, almost confirming his presence with a clever rhyme. And then a day later, on September 23rd, he again confirmed through a post on X. At that time, Flavor Flav shared a clip of himself performing at the iHeart Music Festival.

When a fan asked where his next performance would be, Flav replied, “@athlos on Thursday in NYC [emoji],” solidifying his presence at the event. It’s no surprise, as Alexis Ohanian had personally invited him to join the celebration at Athlos NYC. Flavor Flav has been vocal about promoting women’s sports, and while in Paris, he played the perfect cheerleader for Team USA.

Flavor Flav stepped up to Support Maggie Steffens and Jordan Chiles through tough times

Maggie Steffens, captain of the U.S. women’s water polo team, made a heartfelt plea on Instagram, asking for additional funds to support their quest for a fourth consecutive Olympic gold. Despite their historic success, the team found themselves struggling with financial support, with some players even taking on second or third jobs to keep their Olympic dreams alive. But luck favors the brave, and Flavor Flav, moved by Steffens’ call, stepped in. He promised to “use all my relationships and resources to help all y’all even more.” His support for women’s sports has been crystal clear, especially after how he stood by Jordan Chiles through her own tough moments.

In the second week of September, Jordan Chiles made a public appearance at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards in New York, just a month after she was stripped of her Olympic bronze medal in floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Games. The decision, which Chiles described as “devastating” and “unjust,” left a deep mark on her. Amid the controversy, rapper Flavor Flav stepped in, vowing on X to gift her a unique bronze clock necklace—“something NO ONE else has,” he wrote.

True to his word, Flavor Flav presented the pendant to Chiles on stage at the VMAs. As he hung it around her neck, he offered words of encouragement, saying, “I know they tried to take your medal away from you, but you know what? I got you something that they can’t take away from you.” The gesture left Chiles speechless, with the crowd at UBS Arena erupting in applause. “Wow. I don’t even know what to say,” Chiles responded, clearly moved by the support.

But what happened to Jordan Chiles at the 2024 Paris Olympics was undeniably heartbreaking. After initially finishing fifth in the floor exercise, her coach appealed her score, pushing her into third place. However, Romania challenged the timing of the appeal, and on the final day of the Games, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that it had been submitted too late, reinstating Romania’s Ana Barbosu as the bronze medalist. Despite later video evidence proving the appeal was on time, the decision remained, leaving Chiles devastated.

In the midst of this turmoil, Flavor Flav stepped in to show his support, not only gifting her a unique bronze clock necklace but also ensuring she received the silver medalist’s prize money of $23,000. As Flavor said, “For her prize money that she was supposed to get, I made sure that she got that too.” His actions show his growing influence in the women’s sports.
