Simone Biles, the 25-year-old gymnast, is one of the most decorated gymnasts in Olympics history. She may be young, but her spirit to win remains absolute. When she is on the vault, she demands attention, and she succeeds in doing so.

However, it was not always that she won the competition. There were times when she lost as well. Remembering one such event from her early years, Simone, in her book Courage to Sour, talks about facing defeat. She reveals how difficult it was for her to face loss.

When accepting the defeat became hard for Simone 

As the results were announced, Simone tried hard to hide her disappointment behind her smile. As her parents waded into the crowd and embraced her. She was devastated by the results, yet she did her best to keep her calm. However, once they reached back hotel, she could not hold herself any longer.

Reaching the room, she revealed, “I couldn’t hold it any longer. Oh, I cried; I threw myself across the bed and bawled.” Seeing her in distress, Ronald and Nellie tried their best to console her. Trying to cheer her up, the parent remarked, “It’s okay, Simone. We’re proud of you. You don’t need to be sad about it. You have a fresh opportunity here. This is really okay.”

But that day, Simone was in no mood to hear; she was too disheartened by her loss. She was too sad to comprehend what was happening. Calling it a day, as Simone went to take a shower, her mother reminded Simone that she still is in her junior year and she had come close to winning. She showed confidence in Simone and said, “You’ll come back and make it next year.” Eventually, Simone gathered herself and started preparing for the better.

A look at Simone Biles’ gymnastics career

Simone was just six years old; she started her gymnastics journey. When she was eight, she began to train under coach Aimee Boorman. She soon mastered the gymnastics tricks and secured her spot in the U.S. Junior National Team in 2012. She kick-started her International career in 2013 at the FIG World Cup event.

Before making her Olympics debut in 2016, she was already a people’s favorite. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she became the first American to achieve the feat. Winning one title after, she went on to achieve one of the greatest names in Olympic history. She is an inspiration for a reason!
