The young girl from Ohio had nothing but a dream and a spirit to turn dreams into reality. Simone Biles was just six years old when her journey on the vaults started. Despite having multiple hurdles, the young girl kept herself braving forward. Back on July 1, 2011, when Simone began her elite career, people knew she was not just an ordinary gymnast.

Since that day, she never looked back. She had her share of hurdles, but none were big enough in front of her dreams. The gymnast star slowly but surely climbed the success ladder. She was aware that she had earned herself fans but did not expect the 2019 attention she was subjected to.

Simone never expected that amount of attention

The World Championship is an excellent platform for gymnasts to show their potential. While many miss the mark by some points, few secure their names on the leaderboard, but only one creates history. Taking the world by surprise, Simone, in 2019, established her gymnastic prowess by winning her 24th and 25th overall medals, both of which were gold.

That year, in Stuttgart, the 22-year-old Biles won five of the six gold medals that could be won. She also secured the top place in the team competition, all-around, vault, floor, and beam. Not just finished first but also created a new record.

Post-win, Simone received worldwide recognition. The social media attention that she was receiving was “crazy.” Confessing her honest feelings, she said, “No, I was actually very surprised with the kind of social media attention that I got because I think I really did not think about it.”

She added, “I did not just get a good amount of attention but a crazy amount of attention.” However, amidst all the attention, there was one shout-out that held a special place in her heart. The young gymnast was deeply touched and felt honored when the former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama showered her praise. She said, “my favorite shoutout was probably Michelle, our former first lady.”
