Jordan Chiles’ mother is not afraid to speak up. Remember when MyKayla Skinner’s POV of the Team USA female gymnastics roster ahead of the Paris Olympics took a wrong turn? It was Gina who fired back at Skinner first, setting the stage for some serious back-and-forth drama. And now that Jordan is hanging in the balance with her individual Olympic medal controversy, you can bet Gina will be stepping up to share her perspective once again. It’s safe to say that when it comes to defending her daughter, she’s not afraid to make her voice heard!

In an appearance on the “Got It From My Momma” podcast, Jordan’s mother, Gina Chiles, was asked about what exactly went through the Olympian’s mind. After all, we all know that she was distressed and took a long break from social media while not stepping out of her house. However, Gina Chiles refused to provide details on Jordan’s disturbed state of mind. Instead, she opined that her daughter went through a very tough time processing what had just hit her. Gina also said that since the entire legal process was still in progress, she did not want to escalate the controversy by speaking on the topic.

But she surely did speak about her beloved daughter. Terming Jordan Chiles as a ‘fighter,’ her mother stated, “Jordan has had to experience different crazy things, make mistakes, grow from them, like all of that. To watch, to watch her go through that was very hard because, you know, Jordan has always been a fighter. She’s always had to fight whether she’s wanted to or not.” But that’s not all!

Gina Chiles further shed light on the constant stereotypes that Jordan has had to deal with. For example, the Olympic gold medalist did not fit into the ‘ideal’ body category for gymnastics. She also had to listen to some scathing comments about her hairstyle. Well, Gina Chiles’ reason for concern is very much legit. For any athlete, to win an Olympic medal is a huge deal. However, once the same was stripped off Jordan, she went into a shell.

Although Jordan has taken things to the Swiss Tribunal, the mental trauma that the 23-year-old is going through is unimaginable. And while the case continues to dangle between the slim threads, there is new hope for the champion athlete as the Romanian Federation has decided to get involved.

It was the Romanian Federation that made the appeal to the Court of Arbitration that changed the entire dynamics. However, with everything that has happened since, big names from the Romanian Federation have stepped in. In a recent statement issued by the President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee to Zaire.com, Mihai Covaliu, the possibility of coming to a middle ground was teased.

Covaliu said, “This week we will have an online meeting with our partners in the United States, it’s more of a technical meeting, with the American Gymnastics Federation. First and foremost, we will discuss what is happening with these athletes, because they have suffered a lot on an emotional level.” This might as well turn out to be the light at the end of the tunnel that everyone was waiting for all this time.

However, amidst all the drama, there is no denying that all the fiasco would not have happened if the officials in charge were doing their duties right. Extending a hand of sympathy towards Jordan, her Romanian counterpart Sabrina Voinea mentioned that the officials should have been more careful in executing their duties properly.

She also stated that after giving in every ounce of the energy to win an Olympic medal, the blame game that started was pretty much awful. Voinea also said that the hatred athletes receive under such circumstances was not worth it considering how painful it can be mentally. Thus, with the controversy still revealing new layers, it now remains to be seen whether any new drama is waiting to take the gymnastics realm by surprise.
