Did Stephen Nedoroscik make the right move by swapping gymnastics for Dancing with the Stars?

Hot on the heels of his double bronze-winning success in Paris, Stephen Nedoroscik is once again the talk of the town thanks to Dancing with the Stars. While the 25-year-old dropping out of Gold Over America may have upset some gymnastics fans, his coach wasn’t one of them. On the contrary, the Olympian’s coach and his wife couldn’t wait to see Nedoroscik on the DWTS stage.

The gymnastics icon revealed that his coach had even predicted his partner long before season 33 got underway. The two-time Olympic medalist explained that he didn’t have much experience with either dancing or DWTS. Thankfully, Nedoroscik knew exactly who to turn to for advice, and it was none other than his gymnastics coach, Randy Jepson.

“I asked him like, all right, ‘Who are, who are some of the people that would be really good?'” Nedoroscik said. “I think you and Rylee would kill it.” said the Penn State coach without hesitation. However, Nedoroscik didn’t think it would be the perfect prediction. “I was like okay, the first pick of him was Rylee and I got Rylee. This is so cool.” Stephen Nedoroscik said during the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis.

So, how did the gymnastics coach get it right? The former world champion explained that Jepson and his wife are huge fans of the show. They’ve been following DWTS for years, so Randy Jepson didn’t have any problems picturing Nedoroscik and Arnold on the same stage. While the gymnastics coach did mention Witney Carson as his second pick, her stuck to the 19-year-old.

Stephen Nedoroscik also explained how he felt relieved when they paired him with Arnold. “I was really excited because quite literally she was one of like, the only pros that I knew,” confessed Nedoroscik. That’s because he researched a bit on the 19-year-old pro dancer at DWTS after his coach’s prediction. The fans are also loving the duo’s chemistry on stage.

Unfortunately, the Nedoroscik-Arnold Duo ran into some trouble after the young dancer suffered an injury. Arnold further concerned fans saying she would need to be careful not to aggravate the injury during rehearsals. Thankfully, a twist of fate seemed to have saved the day for the young fan favorites.

Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold get a lifeline

The Olympic gymnast’s dance mentor had the fans concerned after posting a concerning update on Snapchat. “Suffered a little injury last night in rehearsal, so starting my day by heading to pt.” the DWTS pro revealed earlier this week. “I’m going to do everything I can these next couple weeks to just be really careful to be sure it doesn’t happen again so that it doesn’t get worse.” Rylee Arnold added in her post.

However, there’s always a risk of making things worse while rehearsing the tough moves that impress fans. Thankfully, the October 2, Vice Presidential debate on CBS pushed the DWTS episode to Monday, October 7. While ABC aired DWTS, they simulcasted the debate. This delay gave Stephen Nedoroscik’s mentor a few extra days to rest and recover.

And while Dancing with the Stars fans such as the bronze medalist’s coach may have been unhappy, they’ll get a double of WTS this week. Season 33 will return on Monday with Soul Train Night, and then again on Tuesday with Hair Metal Nigh. While Monday’s episode won’t include elimination, the Nedoroscik-Arnold Duo have to be at their best on Tuesday. So it’s safe to say that the Jepsons won’t be missing this week’s DWTS action.
