Simone Biles' mom says she's fine—Is this the comeback story we've all been waiting for?

The world quivered last night watching Simone Biles sit on the mat with team doctor Marcia Faustin. It was the gymnastics qualification round at the Paris Olympics, and the stakes were high for the Team USA gymnastics squad, including the 27-year-old. Yet the American star was defiant enough to shake off the uncomfortableness and continued to do what she does best—punching high scores with gravity-defying routines. However, being her mom, Nellie Biles had a few more questions about her well-being.

In Today’s interview, Nellie Biles cleared the air when the host asked the same question: What is Simone’s situation right now? In assuring everyone about the gymnast’s full health, the mother said, “I spoke to her this morning, doing well, and she was on her way to practice.” A sigh of relief filled the air of the studio subsequently. Nellie added a few more words to shave any ounce of doubt on the situation.

The loving mother has attended each of the gymnastics episodes her daughter has gone through since the age of six. Still, she felt it was hard to match last night’s gymnastic experience with any of her witnessed encounters with her daughter. She termed the entire showdown at Bercy Arena as ‘Epic’. “The girls did a wonderful job and you couldn’t ask for anything better,” she stated. In the meantime, the scene displaying Faustin and Biles together along the fence line of the mat made her worried for a few seconds. We already saw a similar scene panning out at the Tokyo Olympics. Isn’t it?

Three years ago, Simone Biles had to go to Marcia Faustin after completing her vault in the event. The aftermath was Simone appearing in her sweatshirt and leaving the contest. However, keeping a top-to-bottom difference with that visual, the seven-time Olympic medalist appeared on the mat after the discussion, with her leg heavily taped. The media outlets informed us that Simone Biles’ calf was in bad condition. But that was the end of the discussion, as, on the mat, the former all-around Olympic champion did something extraordinary.

Yesterday, Chellsie Memmel, the technical lead of the US women’s gymnastics team, increased the tension in the arena by claiming that she had no idea about the vital cog’s injury. “I haven’t even got to speak to Simone. I need to speak with our team, our medical team, but I don’t have an answer about that. I just first and foremost, I just want to make sure she’s physically okay,” she quipped. But on the mat, the gymnast put Biles II, bossing over her opponents.

Have an interesting take?

Maintaining a clear lead, she clinched 15.800 on the vault, whereas in the floor exercise, her 14.600 points had no answer from the rivals. She didn’t show her uneasiness on the mat, but the pain made her limp a few times. Eventually, she ended the qualification round with 59.566, the best score at the all-around event. Simone Biles will take the floor again on August 5, competing for the all-around title, the crown she left three years ago in Tokyo. Meanwhile, her coach, Cecile Landi, nodded to confirm her full health status. Now Nellie Biles’ statement proves that the gymnastics queen will be in that final huddle with all her might.
