Is it fair to compare Adria Biles to her sister Simone? Share your thoughts!

When an athlete achieves something remarkable, often the honor is shared by their family members as well. For Simone Biles, her towering feats have propelled her family members into stardom in the USA. Thanks to the Houston native’s long list of accolades, the faces of Baby Biles and Nellie Biles have also become equally popular in the country. But things are a little different for Biles’ little sister, Adria.

Being siblings, Simone Biles and Adria share prominent physical features, which sometimes can cause confusion among the Olympian’s fans. In an interview with Chris Osmond, uploaded on YouTube on August 28, Adria broke into a broad grin when the interviewer inquired whether people sometimes wonder if she is Biles’ twin. “All the time,” the former WCC gymnast revealed. But she also posited that such a mix-up can only cause heartbreak for the fans.

I’m so sorry to disappoint,” Simone Biles’ sister sister said earnestly. But she does find humor in it and laughed as she solemnly apologized to everyone who approached her thinking they were about to interact with the most decorated gymnast from the USA. “I’m so sorry I’m not her, you guys,” joked Adria as she emphasized how being only two years apart also makes them look very alike. In the same interview, she also revealed how she looked up to her elder sister at an early age and how they have many similarities beyond just having identical physical features.

Adria said that she took up gymnastics as a kid only because she used to see Simone sporting the leotard. “I only wanted to do it because she wanted to do it like I was obsessed with my sister,” grinned the younger Biles sister. She also mentioned that they share an incredible bond, and not just because they’re bonded by blood.

We’re like best friends,” said Adria, highlighting how she followed in Simone’s footsteps without thinking twice. It was probably this exact connection between them that helped the Olympian’s sister physically feel the pain of the other when she had to pull out of the Tokyo Games final.

Simone Biles’ kin never left her side

At the last Olympics, Simone faced one of the most seminal moments of her career. Despite delivering stellar performances throughout the entire tournament, the 27-year-old found it mentally difficult to execute her routines in the final and decided to pull out after discussing the matter with her coach, Cecile Landi. Her family couldn’t be present by Simone’s side in Japan because of the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, but Adria could feel in her gut that something was off despite being thousands of miles away. “I just had bad vibes. Like I was just weirded out,” said the Olympic gold medalist’s sibling, and she was equally amazed when Simone’s phone rang soon after to inform her family about her decision.

As soon as the news broke, critics arrived with hard comments to claim that Simone Biles was the “quitter of the year,” but her family had her back. “I don’t want you going out there if you’re not in a good place, and you don’t need to go out there and hurt yourself. That’s just not right,” the gymnast’s mother, Nellie Biles, calmed her and told her to prioritize her own health over everything else. Adria also stood firm in her sister’s corner and provided her with all the mental support Simone needed to brave through the tumultuous times.
