The Core Hydration Classic was an electrifying event for senior women’s gymnastics, featuring Olympic and world champions in a highly anticipated showdown. The spotlight was on Simone Biles, who delivered an exceptional performance, earning her highest score since the Tokyo Olympics. Alongside Simone were Shilese Jones, her podium companion from the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, and Jordan Chiles, her compadre from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, both making their 2024 season debuts. But only scores probably are not enough to spell out the significance of Simone’s performance.

The Core Hydration Classic presented unique challenges. This year, the competition seemed to be “cursed,” as several athletes, including Konnor McClain, Gabby Douglas, and Kayla DiCello, experienced falls on the uneven bars. Yet, Simone Biles emerged to conquer the bars with a commanding performance, defying the prevailing challenges of the event.

Making her 2024 season debut in the final rotation, Simone Biles took on the Uneven Bars. She performed a Weiler half to Maloney with a big leg separation, followed by a slightly rushed blind full, then executed a big piked Tkachev to Pak combination beautifully. Though her van Leeuwen was a bit iffy, she finished strong with a toe full to double-double, landing with only a tiny hop.
