Home/Gymnastics

The last three weeks have been a joy as a gymnastics fan in the USA. Watching Simone Biles and her squadmates for the second edition of the Gold Over America Tour has been scintillating, and now the prodigal daughter has returned home. On October 19, the GOAT will be heading to Houston, the 7x Olympic champ’s hometown, and understandably, the excitement to see what the gang has in store is high. And Biles may have a special recruit to mark the occasion.

Considering how the 27-year-old will be performing in her native city for the first time since her electrifying Parisian success, her husband Jonathan Owens would want to be present at her side for the big day. But he may end up doing more than just cheering for the gymnasts, or that’s what Biles seems to have in her mind.

In her recent Instagram story, the most decorated gymnast of all time shared her husband’s enhanced efforts to learn the tricks of her trade. In the social media update, the football safety can be seen trying his hands at the parallel bars as Brody Malone looks on with a candid smile on his face. Seeing how the NFL star is up for new things, Biles even makes a special request to Athleta.

Should we add him to the cast?” Biles ponders and it’s not difficult to understand how she’d be delighted to have her husband perform alongside her in the pop-styled show at the Toyota Center on Saturday. Just a few days ago, the gymnastics icon was spotted supervising the Houston Rockets mascot, Clutch, as he dished out his best gymnastics moves. So who better to judge Owens’ skills as a gymnast and consider taking him on the roster than his wife herself?

On the other hand, this might be the ideal time to find out if the NFL star’s notes come in handy. At the Xfinity Gymnastics Championships and the Olympic Team Trials earlier this year, Biles’ man was seen taking notes from the stands, making many fans ponder what he was up to. The community speculated that Owens was thinking about a career switch after seeing his wife in action, even though he was initially of the opinion that gymnastics wasn’t that hard. While he was quick to rectify his misconception, now would be a good time to see if Jonathan has what it takes. But if he indeed gets his shot, he will be in good company!

This year’s Gold Over America Tour is the first time that male gymnasts were introduced to the roster alongside their female colleagues. “Bringing the guys on board was designed to show what men’s gymnastics has to offer,” Biles said about the decision and noted how it was done while dabbling with ideas about how to bring more exposure to gymnastics. She also went on to state how the move has been met with vehement enthusiasm from the fans: “…the outcome has been absolutely amazing. And you have the kids in the crowd chanting ‘Ian! Ian!’ ‘Fredrick! Fredrick!’ and that’s just so cool,” she said.

Along with Yul Moldauer, Brody Malone, and Paul Juda, the women’s contingent of the Team USA and Gold Over America Tour has also been mesmerizing, to say the least. From Biles to Joscelyn Roberson and from Hezly Rivera to Jordan Chiles, every athlete has been at the top of their game in the show and is showing why gymnastics deserves a larger audience in the country and beyond. Their high-flying action even roped in tennis legend Serena Williams in Duluth last Sunday, and you should consider following suit too. So how do you think Owens would fare outside of the football field if he’s given the chance? Tell us in the comments below!
