Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles show that when it comes to both makeup and friendship, they’re a winning combination! On August 5, Chiles secured a bronze medal in the floor exercise finals after a score review upgraded her position. Biles was visibly thrilled for Chiles, and it was a moment of realization for Chiles about the depth of Biles’ support. Though they didn’t know at the time that Chiles’ medal would be later taken away, Chiles felt the impact of Biles’ encouragement deeply. “Simone’s like a big sister to me,” Chiles said, capturing the essence of their close relationship.
Jordan Chiles, 23, is all about her skincare, sticking to a dedicated eight-step routine that includes a cleanser, toner, three serums—one just for the under-eye area—moisturizer, sunscreen, and eye patches, all in that specific order. With products from cult-favorite brands like Charlotte Tilbury, Fenty Beauty, Summer Fridays, and Bliss, she clearly knows her stuff when it comes to keeping her skin flawless.

But when it came time to nail her makeup look for the Paris Olympics, she knew it wouldn’t be easy due to pressure. Normally, she’d turn to her older sister Jazmin, a makeup artist and hair stylist who opened her own salon, Hair Goals by Jazmin Dominique, back in 2020. Jazmin is her go-to for getting glam before big events, but as Chiles shared with PEOPLE, “unfortunately,” her sister couldn’t do her makeup at the Olympics “because she wasn’t allowed to go into the Village.”
With her sister Jazmin unable to help her with makeup at the Olympics, Jordan Chiles had to step up and handle things herself—though she got a little help from her gymnastics “big sister,” Simone Biles! “I think we were trying a lot of things,” Chiles said, getting ready with Biles before their Olympic competitions. “We were just kind of bouncing ideas off of each other. [Biles] was like, ‘Ooh, do I need to put more blush here?”

Chiles loved the whole glam process, especially when she got to help Biles with her hair. “I really enjoyed it… I did her hair a couple of times, so that was really cool.” Chiles revealed. But, with a laugh, she added, “Biles did not do my hair.” Despite that, the pair had a blast in the Olympic Village, enjoying some well-deserved fun amid the intense competition.
Chiles fondly remembers Biles rocking her makeup game, joking, “I was like, okay, miss Milani Queen! I see you with the bronzer … with the blushes!” The two even shared a few beauty products. “I think I borrowed her lip gloss once,” Chiles recalled. “I think I did take some of her lip gloss or something like that. I was like, ‘Hey, can I use this real quick?” It’s clear their friendship shines as brightly as their winning looks! But Biles’ support goes beyond makeup. When Chiles was on the verge of quitting gymnastics, Biles played a major role in convincing her to keep going, helping her rediscover her passion and stay in the sport.
Simone Biles stepped up when the chips were down
Jordan Chiles, named after basketball legend Michael Jordan by parents who saw her potential from the start, has faced her share of obstacles, critics, and doubters. After becoming a member of the U.S. gymnastics team in 2013, she had a career. However, when she was not selected for the world teams in 2018, Chiles considered giving up the sport entirely.
“I lost the love of the sport,” she admitted. “I felt like I didn’t belong; I felt like gymnastics didn’t want me.” In 2021 though Chiles staged a comeback by securing the third spot, at the Olympic Trials and cemented her place on the team headed to Tokyo where Simone Biles was expected to lead them to a gold medal victory.

Biles was the figure in preventing Chiles from giving up on gymnastics by inviting her to train at the World Champions Centre in Texas—a gym owned by Biles’ parents—after discovering that Chiles was contemplating retirement from the sport she loved so much. Chiles found her enthusiasm for gymnastics reignited during this time. Decided to pursue her passion just two days after finishing high school when she stepped into the gym and embraced what lay ahead in her future endeavors.

“I discovered that gymnastics doesn’t always have to be about strictness and self-doubt,” Chiles shared. Seeing Biles laugh and enjoy herself during competitions inspired Chiles to embrace a more joyful approach to the sport, ultimately helping her fall back in love with it.
When Biles withdrew from the Tokyo team competition due to immense pressure, Chiles stood by her friend amidst harsh criticism. “I did try to tell her, ‘Look, you know how to do everything, and this is your moment,’” Chiles shared. But she knew it was Biles’ decision, and Chiles was there no matter what. “I am her teammate. I’m her best friend,” she said, showing her loyalty and unwavering support for Biles through thick and thin.
