Is Simone Biles redefining what it means to be an athlete with her bold fashion statements?

Have you checked out Simone Biles’s incredible moves on the mat? They’re straight-up legendary and really take the cake! But you know what really makes her performances pop? Those fabulous leotards! Remember the 2024 Paris Olympics when she snagged three gold medals? Her leotard from that event was a showstopper, featuring exclusive Swarovski crystals in Light Siam Shimmer and Majestic Blue. Pretty amazing, right? Plus, she rocked the sublimation technique for printing, which first appeared in leotards at the 2016 Rio Olympics. As Biles puts it, “Leotards were always our only way to express our style, but now it goes beyond that.” It’s clear that Biles knows how to hit the nail on the head when it comes to style and performance!

As a legendary gymnast, you might wonder why Simone Biles is so involved in the fashion scene. After all, she’s not just attending events like the Sherri Hill fashion show at Gotham Hall in New York City; she’s also making appearances on talk shows and participating in various speaking engagements. But there’s a purpose behind it all.

Recently, Harper’s Bazaar publication revealed that Biles and her teammates, including Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee, are passionate about showing their style beyond the mat. Biles expressed, “We don’t always just want to be known as athletes, so we are getting to showcase our style off the mat, and it’s been really exciting.” Biles hopes that when their young fans wear her pieces, they feel “comfortable and powerful and confident.” And you know what? Biles isn’t the only one doing this—lots of other gymnasts are stepping into the fashion spotlight and using their platforms to make a statement.

Jordan Chiles isn’t just known for her gymnastics skills; she’s also become a style icon with her bold choices. Think bright, maximalist leotards, over-the-top acrylic nails, and playful makeup and hair looks are just wow. Ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, she said, “It all just makes me feel more confident. It makes me feel like I am who I am.” She really embraces her personality through fashion, preparing for competitions like she’s walking down a red carpet. Remember her recent walk?

In September, Jordan Chiles also added “runway model” to her impressive list of accomplishments when she made her debut at New York Fashion Week. She totally stole the show at the Kim Shui Spring 2025 ready-to-wear show, rocking a shiny silver and blue floral-patterned leotard-style outfit with a flowy asymmetric skirt. The bodysuit even had floral cutouts at the sides, giving it a unique flair. She paired the whole look with white sneakers, two long braids, and some shimmery silver eye shadow that matched perfectly. And she’s not alone—Suni Lee has a passion for fashion, too, using her style to express herself and shine in the spotlight!

Aside from Simone Biles, Suni Lee is revolutionizing fashion in gymnastics!

Have an interesting take?

Style is a big part of how she expresses herself. Whether she’s nailing a move on the asymmetric bars or landing a near-perfect vault, her beauty and fashion routine always make an impression. Well, Suni made history as the first Hmong-American gymnast to join the U.S. gymnastics team for the 2020 Olympics and to win gold—all while rocking her signature acrylic nails! Over the past few years, she’s balancing intense training, school (until she stepped back for health reasons), overcoming medical challenges, and caring for her paralyzed father.

But Suni absolutely loves fashion and enjoys putting together looks when she’s not in her leotard. She told Teen Vogue, “Being an athlete, I live in athleisure, so I wanted to design clothes that were a bit more fashion-forward.” She really loves experimenting with her style as she grows, and her philosophy is all about enjoying fashion as a way to express herself.

Lee draws inspiration from Hailey Bieber, saying she admires how Hailey blends sporty and feminine vibes in her daily outfits. With it, Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and Suni Lee want to inspire young people to embrace their unique beauty and individuality!
