Over the weekend, Simone Biles took to Instagram to commemorate her first wedding anniversary for the wedding ceremony in Cabo, Mexico. Nellie Biles has been by Simone’s side through her life’s journey since being adopted at six. Biles recalled a moment when she ignored her Momma Biles’ advice to eat something before potentially passing out.

In her Insta story, Biles, initiated a series of stories with the announcement, “Since our wedding anniversary is tomorrow, I’m going to do a weekend throwback of some of my favorite pictures & moments from the weekend.” Among these stories, one stood out as Biles recounted, “Momma Biles is probably telling me I need to eat before I black out...” She then added, “Which would have been good advice about 3 hrs before this... bc I did indeed black out & miss the rest of the pool party.”

Nellie Biles has been an influential and key figure in the gymnast’s personal and professional life. Her mother, sold her nursing home business to establish her own gym. Why? Because a young Simone Biles wasn’t ready to part ways with her coach Aimee Boorman, who had decided to leave Bannon’s Gymnastix. This way Simone was able to continue her development under Boorman. Years later Nellie Biles played an equally key role in her daughter’s wedding with Jonathan Owens.

In a 2023 interview, Simone Biles revealed that her mother helped her a great deal to plan her wedding to Owens. She said, “She’s someone I can bounce things off of and has been letting me do my thing as I figure out what works for us…My mom gives me advice on everything.”

In her caption, Simone tenderly encouraged her followers, “This is your sign to marry your best friend,” expressing her excitement for the future by adding, “Happy 1st anniversary. I’m excited for many more to come. I wish I could marry you a million times more!
