Is Simone Biles' potential absence from the tour a wake-up call for athlete mental health?

The golden moment is almost upon us! After a wait of three years, the much anticipated Gold Over America Tour (G. O. A. T.) will finally kick off this Monday in Oceanside, California and gymnastics fans can’t hold back on the excitement. The pop concert-style tournament will be stopping by a long list of cities across the USA with the most decorated gymnast of all time Simone Biles at the helm of things. Naturally, the impending thrill is scintillating. However, fans might need to hold their horses.

The upcoming Athleta event will feature some of the country’s most celebrated male and female gymnasts to inspire aspiring gymnasts. However, the attention is mostly hovering over the 7x Olympic gold medalist Biles. After a stellar display of grit in the City of Love at the 2024 Olympics, Biles will be embarking on the next phase of her illustrious career. For obvious reasons, gymnastics fans in all parts of the country have been waiting eagerly to celebrate her Parisian campaign through the G. O. A. T event. But not everyone might be getting the chance to do so.

On September 11, the official Gold Over America Tour’s Instagram handle sought to hype the fans some more with its latest post. Captioned, “Are you ready for your 2024 @Athleta Presents Gold Over America Tour squad?!!!!” the post highlights all the explosive names who will be packing the heat for the gymnastics lovers of the US. However, it’s the clause written in relatively smaller fonts at the bottom that has been raising the fans’ eyebrows.

CAST SUBJECT TO CHANGE IN EACH CITY,” reads the text at the bottom of the flier, and some hopeful gymnastics enthusiasts who were waiting to catch a glimpse of the emphatic Simone Biles might be feeling the blues. This could mean that the Texan might skip a few stops along the way, with other stars stepping up to fill the void in that case. But let’s not be quick to spiral down!

However, even though Biles will not make an appearance at every city the Athleta event will be stopping by, there will be plenty of titillating stars who can help the fans revel in their glory with high-flying action. Moreover, just because Simone won’t be there at every step of the way, doesn’t mean that she’s taking the upcoming event lightly.

Have an interesting take?

With her husband Jonathan Owens busy with his NFL responsibilities for the Chicago Bears, Biles now has all the time in the world to conjure something massive for the young gymnasts of the country. Just days ago, the 27-year-old talked about how spending time with the next generation of stars was the best part of the last Gold Over America Tour for her from three years ago. While helping the younglings find their calling in gymnastics is obviously a rewarding thing for Biles, she’s also expecting this edition of the tour to bring something entirely new to the table. Joined by male colleagues like Brody Malone, Paul Juda, Yul Moldauer, and more, Biles thinks there will be something for fans of all ages at this year’s G. O. A. T.

“(The men) also bring a little bit, in the best way, sex appeal. I think that’s very interesting and it brings a different type of crowd too. It’s like they can do really cool tricks with little to no effort without training and so I think it’ll be a beautiful show,” said Biles about the thought process behind bringing in her male brethren into the mix this time around, and we can’t wait to see the results!
