With a spring in her step, Simone Biles, the seven-time Olympic medallist, walks through life inspiring people to embrace change and acceptance. Ironically, change and acceptance are two ends of the spectrum. Perhaps, altering one’s perspective to be more accommodating of oneself is a convincing way of putting it.

Fair to say, the Gymnastics G.O.A.T has liberated herself from enduring monumental pressure by making one bold move.

That is withdrawing from a competition she didn’t sign up for, ‘beauty.’ By this, she not only set herself free of the shackles of self-doubt but also steers a change in others. In connection with this, she once Tweeted an enlightening thought on how modern technology is passively imposing standards depriving one of accepting themselves.

Simone Biles lashes at modern technologies

As a victim of body-shaming and being under public her whole life, Simone had her share of tension and stress dealing with the comments about her extra muscle, short height, and appearance. However, the struggle to not be influenced by external factors and to accept oneself is a herculean task.

Modern technologies are only making it more complicated as expressed in a Tweet, “I don’t like how the new phones auto tune your face.”  

To inspire women to live by their beauty standards, Simone shared a powerful message that she was done with the toxic culture of trolling because their expectations are not met. Also, she reiterates that nobody should tell one “what beauty should or should not look like.”

She wonders why others feel they can define others’ beauty based on their expectations and standards. Whether it’s her body, make-up, or dressing, Biles suggests not being afraid to show up, including one’s flaws.

The world champion gymnast hit gold in both her professional and personal life during the 2016 Olympic Games. Aly Raisman, her teammate, has been instrumental in reinforcing her thoughts on accepting one’s true self.

In an interview, Biles said, “She taught everyone on the team to love our raw, authentic selves.” And showed the path to accomplish this: “focus on what’s inside before worrying about what’s on the outside.”

Simone also follows a strict ‘don’t-engage policy’ to deal with the negativity. The internet tries to feed us. Instead, she spends her free time with the people she is close to.

Simone also shared her idea of happiness, stating, “I’m happiest when I’m at home, chilling with my friends and family, no makeup, just having a good time.”
