Barclays Center was started on September 28, 2012. It was mainly built to accommodate the NBA team Brooklyn Nets, who had moved their bases from New Jersey. It is also the current home of the WNBA team, New York Liberty. The stadium was built by real estate developer Forest City Ratner Companies and designed by an architectural firm, AECOM. It claims to be a state-of-the-art stadium with one of the most intimate seating designs for a multipurpose arena like this.
The stadium has also earned a lot of praise for its sustainable design and construction, earning LEED silver certification from the US Green Building Congress. Although Simone Biles’ GOAT squad is all set to set foot at the Barclays Center on October 5, it is far from the first major event that the stadium has hosted. He was a co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets then and had played the most influential role in their taking the place in New Jersey. The hip-hop mogul was going to fill the arena with eight sold-out shows. Of note is the fact that apart from this, other artists who have a performance history in this arena include Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen. Another event will be hosted by Justin Timberlake on the venue as part of his world tour, two days after the Gold Over America Tour.
From the sports end, apart from being the base of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, Barclays Center is also home to the NHL team, The New York Islanders. They played their first match on 21st September 2013 against the New Jersey Devils. The stadium can seat up to 15,795 spectators during a game of ice hockey. So, the stadium truly avails of its tag as multipurpose in the very truest sense. Now with Gold Over America Tour, it’s all set to add one more feather in its cap!
