Reality is, in most cases, stranger than fiction. While people might think that competitors at the highest level can’t be friends with each other, in reality, USA’s women gymnasts can rely on their teammates with closed eyes. The best example of this would easily be the bond shared between Jordan Chiles and 7x Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles.
The Biles-Chiles duo is one of the most celebrated sports friendships in the country. By now, it’s common knowledge that both of these two incredible stars would walk the mile for the other without dropping a heartbeat. And now, in a recent interview with Us Weekly, the Texan once again hailed her camaraderie with Jordan.
In the YouTube upload from September 24, Biles talked about how movies can create a misconception among viewers about how the world of female artistic gymnastics actually is. During the conversation, the 27-year-old said how Team USA gymnasts love to support each other instead of being mean and competitive like how it shows in the movies. “I (also) think they always pin women against each other and that is not the case,” Biles said in the interview. She also went on to highlight how support is never in short supply whenever the women step on the stage together.

“Whenever we’re on the floor it is truly a Sisterhood,” Simone said further. She elaborated on how kinship prevails within the squad without anyone having to ask for it, and their familiarity with each other helps them to stay in sync all the time. “…me and Jordan have known each other since I was 14 and she was like 11…we’re not bratty towards one another; we truly want everybody to do their best,” Simone Biles revealed the mentality the team harbors while competing. Along with nodding her head toward her comrades, Simone also noted how the Olympics is often depicted as a very easy-to-achieve thing in movies.

“One thing get wrong is how easy the sport is. They do like a back walkover, back handspring on the beam and they’re like, ‘I won the Olympics’. No, it’s not like that,” grinned the country’s most decorated Olympic gymnast and we’re willing to take her word for it. However, one thing Biles cannot deny is that her everyday life can potentially make the best-selling movie script of all time.

Ups and downs have been regular occurrences in Simone’s life. 11 Olympic gold medals and 23 World Championships titles: Biles is easily one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. And yet, when the twisties halted her campaign on the grandest stage three years ago, fans were quick to call her a deserter. The criticism did sting, and Biles decided to take time off from gymnastics altogether. Only did she return to action in 2023 after a two-year gap.

Without missing a beat, Simone Biles once again started showcasing her talent at every opportunity she got and kept adding national and international accolades to her medal tally. Her stellar run ended in the City of Love last month, where she proved her superiority beyond shred of doubt.
However, her own success did not blind her to the misfortune of her gymnastic bestie Chiles. When the UCLA gymnast was directed by the CAS and the FIG to return her floor exercise medal, Simone stood firm in the former’s corner, making her voice in the matter heard. Now, as the two once again hit the road together for the Gold Over America Tour, it remains to be seen if they forge an even stronger bond over the upcoming weeks.
