Simone Biles faced a fall in uneven bars event
Cheers erupted in the arena when Simone Biles stepped on the mat to make her way to the bars. However, the 7x Olympic medalist fell on a release move on uneven bars, her first event. Though she got back on and finished the rest of the routine cleanly, she wrapped the uneven bars with a score of 12.8.

The Maloney is the routine performed on bars and is a member of the Shaposh family. and involves a tow on entry. Facing away from the high bar, and with their legs in a piked position, gymnasts put their toes on the low bar, and use upward momentum to fly up to the high bar and catch it.
With this, the competition took an exciting turn as Day 1 progressed.
Simone Biles trailed behind Zoe Miller after the first event
Following the first rotation, while Miller took the reins on the scoreboard, Biles was 1.7 points behind the Miller.
