Simone Biles: Should she retire on a high note or continue to dominate gymnastics?

Simone Biles has finally broken her silence on the raging debate about her retirement. Biles, who bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics three years back, was labeled by several experts as ‘finished’. However, showing immense grit and determination, Biles came back to win the World Championships and now, has shut her haters in Paris. Participating in the women’s artistic gymnastics discipline, the 27-year-old clinched a total of four Olympic medals, three of them being gold.

Well, as happy as Simone Biles’s outing in Paris was, rumors and speculations about her possible retirement have circulated significantly since the conclusion of her French journey. Many are opining that, at 27 years of age, it might be time for the US gymnastics queen to bid adieu to the shining leotard. Speaking to Hoda Kotb in an interview, Biles reflected on her retirement: “You know, you never say never… The next Olympics is on home turf… So you just never know… I’m just gonna relax and see where life takes me.”

After listening to what Simone Biles just spoke about her retirement, her fans might be overly excited. Although  Biles never confirmed about coming back to LA, she did leave the door open. As a matter of fact, the retirement controversy involving Simone Biles has been going on for quite some time now. It all began when Biles could not process her mind and body together in Tokyo and had to terminate her Olympic mission.

Missing in action for almost two years and two days, many speculated that we have seen the last of Simone Biles. After a series of inactivity from Biles, a tweet became viral from an X user named ‘jc_russell’. The post highlighted Biles’ retirement to which the gymnastics queen replied, “I haven’t retired though 💖 just working on my mental health.”

However, the reality was far from different. In her Netflix documentary, Biles mentioned that it was because of Tokyo, that she had not retired. The memories of nightmarish haunting made Simone Biles resilient and pushed for redemption in Paris. Otherwise, provided everything had gone well in Tokyo, Biles was done for good. And now, even before she had reached home from Paris, retirement and pregnancy rumors took the internet by storm!

Is Simone Biles pregnant?

Simone Biles: Should she retire on a high note or continue to dominate gymnastics?

Have an interesting take?

Moments after her golden triumph in Paris, an August 2 Facebook post claimed that Simone Biles was pregnant. It further elaborated that she was expecting her first child with Jonathan Owens and would be retiring after Paris. Well, as it was found out, despite becoming viral, the information was fake. Meta even flagged the post for misinformation on Facebook. What really happened was that Simone Biles spoke about her willingness to embrace motherhood.

In her latest conversation with Hoda Kotb, Biles mentioned how badly Jonathan Owens wants a baby. Thus, this might be one of the deciding factors why the misinformation spread so rapidly. Another possible reason for the retirement rumors to go off is a couple of phrases uttered by Jordan Chiles and Biles herself during the Olympics.

After winning gold in the all-around competition, Biles stated that she was done competing with Rebeca Andrade, and from now on, she could have her moments. Next up, just yesterday, Jordan Chiles, after winning an emotional bronze on the floor routine, murmured to Biles, “I’m gonna miss you, man.” While both statements could possibly have a wide array of explanations, these were surely acting as fuels to fire up the retirement rumors.

As of now, Simone Biles will be going on her tour. And if her hint is to be believed, then we just might have the opportunity to cheer for Biles for one last time at LA 2028.
