Simone Biles wants Taylor Swift in gymnastics—Is this the crossover we never knew we needed?

Simone Biles, the gymnastics superstar known for her electrifying routines and unparalleled talent, has revealed a fun and unexpected side of herself—her inner Swiftie. “My team talks to her team sometimes, and I’ve met her a couple of times, so it’s been really sweet,” Biles said about her friendship with Taylor Swift. Although they often praise each other on social media, they’ve kept their bond mostly private. This year, ahead of flying off to Paris, Biles sat down with swimming veteran Missy Franklin. Among the myriad of topics they discussed was the choice of music Franklin would prefer if she were a gymnast.

Simone Biles’ suggestion was, unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift. Could this be the start of a thrilling collaboration between two icons from different worlds? What magic could unfold if Biles’ powerful performances were set to Swift’s enchanting tunes? This playful suggestion highlights Biles’ admiration for Taylor’s music and her desire to blend it with the artistry and athleticism of gymnastics.

In a recent chat between Missy Franklin and Simone Biles on Laureus’ YouTube Channel, Biles urges Franklin to use pop icon Taylor Swift’s music. Biles said to Missy, “If I had to pick (music) for you, I feel like you’re like a swiftie. I feel like you would like something from Taylor Swift.” Missy Franklin agreed, she said if she had to perform a floor routine, Taylor Swift’s songs would be perfect, “anything from the reputation album” just has her heart. The two discussed Swift’s iconic one-legged, one-armed bodysuit that has been greatly appreciated amongst her fans.

Simone Biles herself has performed many of Swift’s songs during her routines and so her patronage is only natural. Moreover, using popular music helps the sport reach more audiences. Using pop music for gymnastics is like using buzzwords in a resume, it provides an additional boost. In addition to being a swiftie, Missy Franklin has been one of the most prominent figures in American swimming. Back in 2012, during the Olympics, Franklin stunned audiences when she won 5 Olympic gold medals out of which four were gold.

Additionally, she has won 11 world championship titles, making her the first woman to reach that goal. She has also set multiple records, including her time of 2:04.06 in the 200m backstroke event in 2012. She was named FINA’s Swimmer of the Year in 2011 and was inducted into the Colorado Hall of Fame in 2012 for her tremendous success and contribution to swimming. After a long, illustrious career, Franklin retired from the scene in 2018.

Have an interesting take?

It all started when Simone Biles used Taylor Swift’s song during the US Olympic trials. She performed a floor routine with a difficult triple-double to ‘Ready for it?’ from the 2017 Reputation album. It was the instrumental version of the song and was choreographed by Gregory Milan. This caught Swift’s eye who tweeted while she was on her Eras tour which is slated to make her the world’s first billionaire singer, “Watched this so many times and still unready. She’s ready for it tho 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥇🇺🇸❤️” In response to this, Biles sent her regards back. She took to Twitter to write, “I’m crying. how special. I love you @taylorswift13.” This just goes to show the mutual love and respect that the two trailblazers have for each other.

Biles told TODAY’s Hoda Kotb, “I do love her. She is so sweet.” Furthermore, Swift even narrated a motivational video before one of Biles’ routines. She praised Simone’s dedication and commitment. About Simone’s Tokyo Olympics, Swift remarked, “Throughout the last week, her voice has been as significant as her talents. Her honesty as beautiful as the perfection that has long been her signature.” Though Taylor Swift will not be present in Paris since her tour is slated to continue till December, we are sure she will be cheering Biles on from wherever she is in the world.
