As the Paris Olympics 2024 nears, several athletes are making their way to the podiums for a powerful kickstart. The 2020 Summer Olympics team bronze medalist Alice Kinsella anchored the British team to the much-awaited podium. She repeated her feat at the 2022 World Championships, where the team leveled up to the silver podium. After securing the title of the 2023 British national all-around champion, she ushered in 2024 with high hopes. But is her way to success a little thorned?
Every year, the 23-year-old partakes in the British Championships to begin her year on a positive note. But in 2024, an injury may have obstructed her path and partially disrupted her gymnastic flight. Even though she was on a recovery journey resulting in a British Championships rule out, her gym lighted up again.

One Reddit user had previously posted that the 23-year-old’s “right (arm) elbow looked massively swollen and that her leotard sleeve had been cut off. This looks to me like a fracture/dislocation of the elbow which is likely to be a season-ending injury except possibly a beam routine with one-handed Acro elements.” For someone whose elbow has been dislocated, getting back to full-fledged training can’t appear in the farthest of dreams. But her latest Instagram story is proof that grit and determination steers her wheel. At the Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club, Kinsella smoothly transitions from the high bar to the lower bar with seamless swings.

In 2023, her stunning maneuvers brought home the all-around gold from the British Championships. In the same event, she bagged the balance beam and floor gold as well. But this year being the Olympic one, every competition counts as crucial. Toe-to-toe with compatriot Jessica Gadirova, the 23-year-old artistic gymnast has a career worth accolading.
Kinsella’s storied career
At the 2022 World Championships, Gadirova and Kinsella’s joint efforts helped GB secure the all-around silver. This was the highest podium placement of GB in Worlds history. That year, Gadirova and Kinsella’s bond shone through so much that they both finished in places that were never achieved by any British female gymnast.

At the European Championships, she has two golds and three silvers under her belt. Some more wins came from the Commonwealth Games as well. Three golds, one silver, and one bronze to round it off. The Sutton Coldfield native has been at the mouth of injuries, but her comeback performances were always stronger. Now she’s prepping for her second Olympics entry at the Paris Olympics 2024.
