Legendary gymnast Simone Biles got introduced to gymnastics at age six when she went on a field trip with her daycare to a gymnasium. After that, she met her first coach, Aimee Boorman, who trained her till 2016. Coach Boorman and Simone’s mother played a vital factor in the Biles family’s decision to create their gym. However, in her book, she describes the fear she had in her heart when her mother used to visit the gym.

Gymnastics requires a lot of intense practice time to develop the necessary skills. In addition, it takes a lot of effort and commitment to be a gymnast who has won four gold medals. During the practice sessions, little Simone used to fizzle sometimes. It was because her mother used to visit coach Boorman.

Simone Biles fears her mother

In her book Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance, Simone pointed out how she felt scared when her mother came to the gym. During her practice sessions, her mother usually kept her distance. However, as her mother learned about little Biles’ bad behavior, she came there.

The gymnast wrote, “But people hardly ever saw my mom. To tell the truth, I don’t think she ever had much of a clue about my routines; she didn’t even know what the big skills were called. All she knew was what she saw me perform in competition. But she preferred it that way. She thought a little distance from my gymnastics allowed us both some necessary perspective. As she always told me, ‘I’m not your fan Simone; I’m your mom.'”

The point that her mother owned the gym arena is a significant factor. Biles wrote about her mother’s power and authority. She wrote, ” The coaches would whisper to one another, “Look, Mrs. Biles is here” They knew my mom owned her own company and was the boss everywhere she went. She might be a short little woman with a soft manner, but she held a lot of power and authority behind that sweetly smiling face.”

Simone’s mother’s contribution to her career

Over time, the gymnast rose to the top in gymnastics. But there was a period when her mother treated her harshly. She had explained in her memoir how when Nellie used to avoid Simone and gymnastics.

The two have an extraordinary affinity, and when people tell Simone that she looks exactly like Nellie, she feels proud of herself. The all-time greatest gymnast is currently occupied with wedding preparations alongside her fiancé, Jonathan Owens.
