It should come as no surprise that gymnastics is a physically and mentally demanding discipline. It emphasizes flexibility, balance, body awareness, and coordination for a gymnast to succeed. Gymnasts work hard in the gym to develop their muscular strength and endurance while reducing the risk of significant injuries. Similarly, when the legendary gymnast Simone Biles took her first step in the arena, she knew what challenges were coming.

Biles, who started working on her skills at 6, went through a lot of training. However, her coaches and family made her strong enough to survive the challenges on the gymnastics floor.

Simone Biles conquering challenges

The globe is well aware of the gymnast’s cheerful nature. Biles drew attention to mental health for athletes during the Tokyo Olympics. She has been open about her issues with mental health, and since then, she has supported others going through a similar experience.

Before her mental health issues interrupted her gymnastics world, she gave an interview about the challenges. Biles described her one distressful habit, which she kept repeating before the Olympics. Once, during an interview with ‘Women’s Health’ magazine, Biles shared her thoughts. The interviewer questioned her, “What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced leading up to the Olympics, and how have you overcome them?

In reply, Simone stated, “One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is truly believing in my gymnastics and trusting myself with some of the skills. I feel like I overthink a lot because it’s just what we do. So once an event comes closer, even if I’ve hit sets for months, I’m like, ‘I can’t do it anymore!’ I just get a little bit nervous. It’s a habit that I’ve had for years, and it hasn’t stopped yet.”

Biles was particularly sensitive to the disruption brought on by the unusual circumstances of these Olympics—isolation, Covid testing, and, worst of all, the absence of her family. Biles had experienced some troubling setbacks in the years appearing in the Tokyo Olympics. However, since the 2016’s Olympics, her family has been her most effective support system. The encouragement her family provided her was on the next level.

Biles’ upbringing was difficult from when she was a little child raised by her single mother. After being placed in foster care, she got adopted by her grandparents. But her challenges don’t stop there. Biles was exposed to the severe treatment of coaches and the constant pressure of gymnastics training.
